So far, seven candidates for three vacancies on the board of the Brownsville Independent School District have applied for a place on the November ballot.
The drawing will be held at 6 p.m. at the BISD main office at 1900 E. Price Road.
Three candidates have applied for Place 1, held by incumbent Drue Brown. Including Brown, former board members Carlos Elizondo and Phil Cowen applied for a place on the ballot as the hour for the drawing approached.
Place 2 has incumbent Denise Garza and lone challenger Victor Caballero drawing for a place on the abloot.
Place 3 has challenger Frank Ortiz challenging incumbent Prisci Roca Tipton.
But take this with a grain of salt. Some candidates have been known to appear before he 6 p.m. drawing deadline and fill forms announcing they will switch to another place depending on the number of candidates on the place they sought.
And operating on the fringes is none other than former BISD board attorney Baltazar Salazar, who has come out in support of Brown in spite of the fact that Caballero and ELizondo are backing each other up.
And there is yet another blast from the past. None other than former BISD Superintendent Noe Sauceda is also posting his support of Elizondo.
Have any deal been cut to bring these blasts from the past out of the woodwork?

It doesn't surprise anybody that those two characters have join together as a slate. Both Victor and Carlos are all about themselves.

Are these people really that concerned about the youth of our community or their own personal gains? Hopefully there will be some Republicans running for these positions. We need a change for the better. Time to think about the individual and forget about the party.
