KANSAS VOTERS: LET WOMEN CONTROL THEIR BODIES

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Kansas voters resoundingly decided against removing the right to abortion from the State Constitution, according to The Associated Press, a major victory for the abortion rights movement in one of America’s reliably conservative states.

The defeat of the ballot referendum was the most tangible demonstration yet of a political backlash against the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that had protected abortion rights throughout the country.

The decisive margin – 60 to 39 percent, with about 80 percent of the votes counted as of Tuesday night – came as a surprise, and after frenzied campaigns with both sides pouring millions into advertising and knocking on doors throughout a sweltering final campaign stretch.

“The voters in Kansas have spoken loud and clear: We will not tolerate extreme bans on abortion,” said Rachel Sweet, the campaign manager for Kansans for Constitutional Freedom, which led the effort to defeat the amendment.

It's a state issue.

Bodes badly for Republicans in November.

You don't mess with women. It may feel good at the time, but payback is vicious.

The question is if Kansas is going to allow the United State Medicaid Program to pay for these abortions? Medicaid and insurances need a medical code to pay for such services. Who is going to pay for these abortions? It's your body, its your right to do whatever to your body, but as long as you pay for it. Taxpayers should not have to pay for these choices,
since they are not medical necessities. This is my opinion. Not for nor against but we taxpayers should not be allowed to fork up the bill.

You don't pick on women as a class.

They hold all the power, all that's worthy in Life.

Man is just a dick.

Government should stay off women's bodies!

They said nothing about outlawing vasectomies!

Great job, Kansas!!!

Who’s against women? The Supreme Court made a decision. Its up to each individual state. About 2% of all abortions in the U.S. involve some type of complication for the woman, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, which is part of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, a branch of the National Institutes of Health. The center says, “most complications are considered minor such as pain, bleeding, infection and post-anesthesia complications.” Among those ages 15 to 44, there were 23.8 abortions per 1,000 non-Hispanic Black women; 11.7 abortions per 1,000 Hispanic women; 6.6 abortions per 1,000 non-Hispanic White women; and 13 abortions per 1,000 women of other races or ethnicities in that age range, the CDC reported from those same 29 states and the District of Columbia. I can see why Hispanic women are for abortions. They can’t make the right decision in comparison to white women.

The taxpayer should not have to pay for individual’s poor choices.
