(Ed.s Note: Just like that, City of Brownsville Engineering/Public Works Director Amando Gutiérrez abruptly and mysteriously left his position about two weeks ago. Gutierrez had served in that capacity for about three years. Insiders say that Doroteo Garcia will be interim director as the city administration casts a tarraya for a permanent department director.
Rumors abound that former COB Engineering Director Carlos Lastra will again be handed back his former position as Engineering Director and that Garcia will be the next Public Works Director. 
Lastra, who left the city in 2017 to work for Cameron County, and then returned back to the city after two years there. If you remember, Lastra had approved and had installed yellow plastic speed humps instead of a concrete curb at 1100 E. Saint Charles Stree next to the old Greyhound Bus building.

Department staff is asking whether the apparent shifting of the deck chairs on the USS COB and its hiring practices is illegal or good municipal policy to choose who gets those positions before going through the formal hiring process. Another lawsuit in the making?)

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has refused to coordinate with New York on the asylum seekers he’s bused to the city since May, NYC Mayor Eric Adams said Sunday, citing six more buses that arrived this morning.
Speaking on ABC’s This Week, Adams said moments of crisis call for coordination, but the city wasn’t being notified of when buses of migrant families were arriving.
“We reached out to Governor Abbott when we first discovered that he was compelling people to get on the bus, he was tagging them. Nothing new with city's hiring practices, just look at the HR director who was hired by Bernal without any experience or knowledge on labor laws whatsoever and making well over $106,000 a year. Same goes with the Assistant HR director both with zero HR experience. Once again, solid proof of is not what you know but who you know to get hired by the city. Prime example of "Total Alignment " which is nothing but a joke.

Its a sign from the city commission of browntown that there is NO change here. REGARDLESS how much you people complain to them the city is running smooth so no change is needed so bring in the old gang but with a increase of salary up to 50% more but less of a work load.

So Doroteo is now in charge. It’s funny how he is getting his old engineering buddies lined up with the high ranking jobs. Former Engineering director Carlos is now the Interim City engineer. Wow let’s hope he does better than he did the last time. Let’s not forget how Carlos called in all his favors to protect Susie, when she was charged with theft. Let me Guess Javier will be appointed into Carlos job at Public Works. Does Doroteo plan on getting rid of the assistant director so that he can move his old buddies from engineering to even higher paying jobs. Forget Total alignment in that department.
