Cameron County Sheriff Department deputy Ruben Garcia has been reportedly fired after he apparently entered Mexican territory in pursuit of an allegedly stolen pickup truck through Veterans Memorial International Bridge at Los Tomates.
Garcia was working on the stolen car detail at the bridge when he tried to stop a truck after he detected that the temporary paper plates didn't match the vehicle. When he tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off across the bridge and Garcia gave chase in his unit, crossing the Rio Grande.
The truck entered Mexican territory and Garcia was forced to use a crossover to get on the northbound lanes. But the crossover was across the Rio Grande and past the international boundary.
But this is not over. Apparently, Mexican authorities filed a complaint that is now being investigated by the Texas Attorney General's Office. The results of that investigation, according to county sources, is due out sometime next week.
And other sources now claim that the truck was not stolen but that the driver had merely placed the temporary paper license plates over the expired ones.

Ruben Garcia appears to want to have his way in a forgein country. He is demonstrating little knowledge of the law he is to up hold. What could have clouded his mind to do what he did? At least Mexican authorities filed a written complaint. I understand it is difficult to tell the difference between twin sisters Brownsville and Matamoros but most residents know the difference.

I’ll be the first to hate on administration but the decision to terminate Ruben was the right one. Let’s not forget he’s the same Deputy that dropped a lady after he had gotten pushed instead of just dropping her and arresting her. Then he got into a vehicle pursuit without authorization and crashed. And now he went into Mexico when he could’ve avoided that incident all together. In all of the incidents he was involved in had he had some common sense he could’ve avoided all of them. Ruben is gone, good luck in the future and good riddance for the SO. Now all we need is for admin to do their fucking job and help us out with more man power, gear and units instead of making the office looking like a fucking playground while they peddle for “future voters.”
Ruben is a piece of crap. When he was in civil process he would spend hours at his house on duty. GPS confirmed. Then assaulted an old lady and didn't even make a report about it. This was just the proverbial straw that broke the camels back. He doesn't belong in uniform.
