GATEWAY CLOSED, MIGRANTS PROTEST NEW ASYLUM RULES

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

U.S. - and Mexican - authorities closed the Gateway Bridge in downtown Brownsville late morning Friday after reports that a protest by mostly Venezuelan migrants waiting in to claim asylum had turned violent. At the top photo, black smoke drifts over the Mexican side of the bridge, triggering the closing.

Some U.S. law enforcement sources initially said the trouble stemmed from clashes between warring cartels, either between them or with the Mexican military. These diverse statements could not be verified. However, Matamoros media posted photos of a mass protest involving columns of newly-arrived Venezuelan migrants.

In a prepared statement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said, “In light of a current demonstration at the midpoint of Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville, CBP has temporarily halted traffic and continues to implement appropriate port hardening measures, such as placement of K-rails and conducting periodic mobile field force exercises to ensure the safe and secure processing of travelers at our international bridges.

“All of these measures seek to ensure the safety of the traveling public and our officers while facilitating lawful trade and travel.”

Pro-migrant advocates say the protest began by 200 to 300 Venezuelan migrants at the middle of the bridge after U.S. authorities announced that an agreement between the Mexican and U.S. governments was approved which required Mexico to keep the migrants on thier side of the border pending a review of their asylum applications.

Immigration attorneys say that the recently announced change in immigration policies affecting Venezuelan migrants triggered the protest. Under the policy, conditional humanitarian permits would only be provided only to 24,000 Venezuelan migrants arriving by air. Any Venezuelan caught crossing the border illegally will be sent back to Mexico under Title 42.

A local broadcaster quote immigration attorney  Carlos Garcia who said that under the new rules "if you try to enter unlawfully after yesterday, if you try to do that today, then you won't even qualify for any type of program.” immigration attorney Carlos Garcia said.

Shoppers and pedestrians waiting to cross from Brownsville to Matamoros were turned away and sought to cross at the other two spans in the city. However, the Brownsville and Matamoros bridge a half mile away – known locally as the "old" bridge – was also closed during the protest. Both are now open.

A heavy Texas Department of Public Safety contingent blocked the southbound entrance to the bridge and federal officers guarded the middle of the span.

THE RUSSIAN SPY IN THE WHITE HOUSE -

Legal experts: Russia link to Donald Trump documents means it's a matter of "when, not if" he is indicted

"Those are incredibly damning statements that go directly to knowledge and intent," longtime prosecutor says

A shout out to brave federal and state officers who are not ignoring the problem and who share in the virtue of having laws.

Conman Donald Trump Is Facing Obstruction Charges and the Courts May Not Save Him Republican judges have more freedom than Republican politicians.

- On Wednesday, the Washington Post reported that Donald Trump ordered an employee to move boxes of government documents he illegally seized. On Thursday, the Supreme Court unanimously rejected Trump’s appeal to intervene on his behalf. If you consider these developments in tandem, it reveals the highly elevated legal period he finds himself in.

Trump faces an array of legal and civil cases, the most serious of which appears to be the charges relating to his seizure of documents after leaving office. Trump appears to have violated several laws by taking the documents and refusing to turn them over, but faces an especially high likelihood of being charged with obstruction.

The thought that Trump can run for presidency is just outrageous. A treasonous grifter can run to become president. Let that sink in. A country of “laws” 😂😂😂

Matamoros will be fine. Just a little steam being let-go. Don't make it more than it is, blogger

Never Mind That shit, Mongo - Today, I fell in love with a woman with a damaged heart.

Here's a song about a good 'ole girl
with a big 'ole heart that got
broke 'cause she was in love with
some son of a bitch who didn't love her back enough ...

Slowly she sank to her knees on the floor
Cursin' the freedom she'd won
From the torture she vowed not to take anymore
And the victim she'd almost become

Chorus:
For a lady who'd learned all there is about leaving
She sure took a long time to go
But he loved her right down to her socks and no further
And her feet were the last ones to know.

'F*** you and your abortionist b**** daughter,' longtime Donald Trump advisor Roger Stone can be heard yelling into his phone in newly unearthed footage from a documentary. The line came right after Stone tore into Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner. A Danish filmmaker said Stone erupted after seeking blanket pardons after Jan. 6th. Trump had already pardoned Stone and commuted his prison sentence after being convicted of lying to Congress and witness tampering. Kushner identified himself as being busy with pardons during testimony to the House Jan. 6th committee.

Grocery prices jumped 16.8% in the last year, the largest increase since March 1974, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday. Overall prices in the Brownsville/San Benito area surged 9.2% over the last year, according to the September Consumer Price Index. Food prices (groceries and restaurants) rose 14.2%, with fruits and vegetables up by 21.9% and other groceries up by 20.8%.

Restaurant prices took less of a hit than groceries, but increased 11.1% since a year ago.

After watching the video of Nancy Pelosi and others (Republican Mitch McConnell, Democrat Chuck Schumer) in hiding while rioters trashed the U.S. Capitol Building, I must say that my admiration for Speaker Pelosi has grown dramatically.

I have so much respect for Pelosi and Schumer. These are Respectable people.

Donald Trump has to be in jail for 20 years or more.

He instigated the riot and then did nothing to help stop it. Well, he did watch it on TV, the fucker.

Burning cars and tires? This is typical reaching media at its finest. I thought this only happened in mainstream but the small pond outdoes it again.

Oh, by the way, a commercial building caught fire, hence the black smoke.

Is cronyism illegal in the federal government?
If you report your employer, you'll be protected from punishment under the whistleblower act. Nepotism and – to a much lesser extent – cronyism are also illegal in government entities.

Venezuelan protestors have been bused to Mexico city. Orders by new governor Americo Villarreal, bridge open.
IGNORANT protestors that "protest" in this blog should start by going themselves to the PUB building, the meetings. These people didn't protest because they didn't get their stamps (THEY WERE IN MATAMOROS). Prices have gone up because a certain president 2 1/2 yrs ago (45) passed a tax break to the rich 1% of this nation and it is finally catching up. Inflation is not only in Brownsville or the USA, it is WORLD WIDE but for our locals, the world is lets blame the old dude, the democRATS and return the power to the Mussolini wanna be. Gasoline goes up and down but it is NOT as high as places like California or New York. Brownsville "Americans" are all talk blame the old man and excuse the fat orange orangutan. Short memory and to our convenience: Not only the Mexican way but also the American way.
