Cameron County will hold a groundbreaking ceremony of the Cameron County Tax assessor-Collectot's Southmost Office today at 10 a.m., the 10th satellite county tax office, and will be located a 3000 Southmost Blvd., in Brownsville.

The vision for the project originated fur years ago, on February 2018, when the water tower was demolished by the Brownsville Pubic Utility Board. The land was donated to the county by the City of Brownsville and the Brownsville Independent School District. The total cost is $2,820,000.
"In less than two years, we're pleased to inform you that we have opened doors to two new locations, in San Benito and Harlingen, and we are breaking ground for the third site in Brownsville," said Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño.
"I want to tank our Tax Assessor-Collector, Mr. Tony Yzaguirre for working diligently in expanding locations and offering services with the convenience of drive-thru lanes, the best to serve out constituency."
Likewise, Precinct 1 commissioner Sofia Benavides, in whose jurisdiction the new facility will stand, offered her support for the project.
"I am very proud to join (Tony) Yzaguirre Jr.as we break ground for the Sothmost Tax Office that will provide services to our constituents in Precinct 1. Under the leadership of Judge Treviño and my fellow county commissioners we have broken ground on many we have broken ground on many new projects all over the county. This office will not only take care of tax office services but will offer additional county services," she said.
For Yzaguirre, a Southmost native who attended Cromack School literally in the shadow of the old water tower, it is a project that has been near and dear to his heart that had been a long time coming.
"The construction of the long-awaited project facilitates our ultimate goal of serving the citizens of the Souhmost area within Cameron County. After more than three years, the Southmost area will have access to our services closer to home. We are thrilled that our plans are finally materializing and will ease our overburdened main office in downtown Brownsville."

WOW where's the money coming from? Looks like another tax hike is in the making. Went to a gathering of elected officials and all I saw was a group of people (ELECTED OFFICIALS)with wats of franklins in their hands yelling "I too want a building named after me or a family member"!
QUE MAMONES its not their money that's why.
DO NOT RE-ELECT ANY BODY THEY STAND FOR TAX INCREASES, HIRING THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS, NONE PAY ANY TAXES (historical desigantions homes) AND IF THEY GET CAUGHT THEY GIVE THEMSELVES A PAID VACATION OF 60 DAYS.
DO NOT, DO NOT RE-ELECT NO BODY EVER AGAIN.....
at least the 6 readers here - do not vote to re-elect anybody
or is it 7?
Waste of tax payers money. Need to vote everyone out. We need new blood in all political positions.
Who was caught stealing funds from the Sunshine Haven Hospice in Olmito?
This property should be given to the Cromack Elementary for parking spaces.
Have you seen how parents struggle to pick up their children?
