EARLY VOTING SLOW IN HIDALGO, ON 2018 PACE IN CAMERON

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Even though all eyes – from Austin to Washington D.C. – are on Hidalgo and Cameron counties Monday as early voting in midterms elections opened, voting results have started out sluggishly in Hidalgo and remain surprisingly stable in Cameron in comparison to the 2018 General Election.

This despite the visit of former president Donald Trump to the Coastal Bend and Gov. Greg Abbott Tuesday to Harlingen for the Republicans and repeated visits by his challenger Beto O'Rourke for the Democrats. Both the latter are running for governor in the General Election.

At the end of the first day of early voting, 13,750 ballots had been cast in Hidalgo County, including 10,948 in-person ballots and 2,802 mail-in ballots.

Those numbers were lower than those cast the first day of early voting in the Nov. 2018 General Election. The first day of early voting four years ago saw a total of 19,650 ballots cast, including 14,703 in-person ballots and 4,947 mail-in ballots.
Cameron County, meanwhile – without counting mail-in ballots and only in-person voting– totaled 6,977, only two votes more than the 6,975 cast on the first day of early voting in 2018.

The only sites with notable increases of voting total on the first day occurred at the Brownsville Main Public Library which tallied 1,472 Monday compared to 1,129 on the first day of early voting in 2018, 343 more than four years ago.

In Harlingen, the traditional top voting site there – the Harlingen County Annex Building – drew 941 votes, one less than the 940 cast on the first day in 2018.

As Republican Campaigns Seize on Crime, Racism Becomes a New Battlefront
With ads portraying Blacks and Hispanics candidates as soft on crime — or as “different” or “dangerous” — Republicans are openly appealing to white fears and resentments.

Cocos still appeal to racists republicans, only as votes nothing else.

Juan could it be the numbers are lower in hidalgo county because maybe just maybe some of these lesser number of voters from 2018 might have passed away during the covid-19 epidemic? just saying for a friend?

Folks too much mulah here, lots of money floating around at PUB-Brownsville, both BPUB board and Brownsville city commission know it and nothing will be done to charge el johnnie bruciak, ex mayor Tony martinez, previous asst ceo and the former finance director at PUB with any fraud charges or misappropriation of funds, they will walk away, just wait and see. MEA CULPA, or as they say on Southmost road juan, SAFIS.

BPUB members talk reimbursement: $29 million remains in Tenaska equity fund
Most citizens here made a lot of sacrifices to pay their electric bills.
At times I had to borrow, pawn and apply for loans to pay my electric bill.
NOW I WANT MY MONEY BACK TO PAY ALL THE INTEREST I HAVE ACCUMULATED FOR BORROWING AND PAYING PUB. I NEED IT IN CASH LIKE THE WAY I PAID IT.

Speaking of the former finance director at PUB how about the "I've been here 50 years" finance mouse now retired at the city. He must have known about the robbery at PUB.

He needs to be investigated by the feds and the FBI. He will surely sing like a canary and will never stop. PINCHE RATAS MAMONAS.

A house mouse paper pusher mamon he will surely sing and will never stop - call him up FBI, easy target this case will close rapidly with this person singing. PURA VERDAD! ESTULE

It’s getting hot in the kitchen. With everyone fighting to be on erasmo’ s circus.

Two sides—- they made mucho dinero. and they will kill each other to show how innocent they are…and how guilty the other side is…..meanwhile citizens get robbed.

Someone compile all the southwest points and get Paxton down here…
