"KVEO has informed us that Mayra Flores has backed out of our scheduled October 19th debate. I'm not surprised though, Mayra has a history of skirting responsibility, whether shielding a sexual predator in her office or voting against making our schools safer," Gonzalez posted.
In the case of her district director, Aaron Peña, Flores said Saturday that she fired her former staffer after he was accused of sexual harassment, though her campaign later said the congresswoman misspoke.
Peña, who served as district director for the newest Texas Republican in Congress, left the campaign after far-right website Current Revolt and Texas Public Radio reported on sexual harassment allegations against him spanning decades.

In response to a question Saturday at The Texas Tribune Festival on workplace sexual harassment in politics, Flores said Peña had been fired.
“First thing we were made notified, he was gone,” Flores said. “We will not tolerate any of that behavior.”
Flores spokesperson Daniel Bucheli told the Tribune after the event, “The congresswoman misspoke this morning,” adding that Peña had “resigned from our office.”
And just as she dissembled on Peña, Flores also announced that she would not participate in the debate with Gonzalez.

She Voted AGAINST the continuing resolution to extend this funding. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps keep families safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs.
Mayra is deceiving and denying relief for South Texas seniors. Shameful!

What is shameful is the fact that our so-called former 34th congressman Filemon Vela abruptly abandon Cameron County, then Vicente Gonzalez abandoned Hidalgo County district and wants the Cameron County 34th district. Why? Let's not forget our third oil and gas congressman Henry Cuellar, under FBI investigation. Cuellar is the congressman with the purse who gives out the monies for these entities. These three corrupt so-called leaders are the reason why There is no monies allocated to these very needed programs. Let's not elect a political leader that wears the necklace of an alleged FBI investigation nor his alleged corrupt compadres. If there are no monies for these needed entities, then the fault falls on Henry Cuellar for not controlling his purse monies.
