Snopes debunked this claim in 2015. This included Trump’s ideas of running for President on CNN’s Larry King Live in 1999. As quoted in Snopes, Trump said,
“I’m a registered Republican. I’m a pretty conservative guy. I’m somewhat liberal on social issues, especially health care, et cetera, but I’d be leaving another party, and I’ve been close to that party … I think that nobody is really hitting it right. The Democrats are too far left. I mean, Bill Bradley, this is seriously left; he’s trying to come a little more center, but he’s seriously left. The Republicans are too far right. And I don’t think anybody’s hitting the chord, not the chord that I want hear, and not the chord that other people want to hear, and I’ve seen it.”
Apart from this, we searched for credible evidence online related to any profile or interview People’s did on Trump, but could not find anything that supports this claim.
Conclusion
Trump did not refer to Republicans as “the dumbest group of voters in the country.” The 1998 People Magazine quote attributed to Trump is false.

You must be in the top 1% of the elitist in this country to adore este pendejo. You must be still celebrating the president’s tax cuts for billionaires and corporations his efforts to deregulate the economy. That allowed businesses to pollute the air more, get more Americans hooked on opioids, entice more children to eat their diabetes-inducing foods and engage in the sort of financial shenanigans.
Among developed countries, the US sits at the bottom in this. US life expectancy, already relatively low, fell in each of the first two years of Trump’s presidency and in 2017, midlife mortality reached its highest rate since the second world war.
No president has worked harder to make sure that more Americans lack health insurance. Millions have lost their coverage and the uninsured rate has risen, in only two years, from 10.9% to 13.7%.
Trump may be a good president for the top 1% – and especially for the top 0.1% – but he has not been good for everyone else. He fully implemented, the 2017 tax cut that resulted in tax increases for all households in the second, third and fourth income term in office.
So, Trump deserves failing grades not only on essential tasks such as upholding democracy and preserving our planet. He should not get a pass on anything.
And if you are Hispanic, either you don't understand the english language or you are just plain stupid or a COCO.
