CABALLERO ON QUIXOTIC QUEST, CALLS FOR A RECOUNT; HOLDOVER PROVISION KEEPS INCUMBENT GARZA ON BOARD

 Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Place 2 Brownsville Independent School District candidate Victor Caballero who lost to incumbent Denise Garza on the November 8 election by 4,388 votes – 16,495 to 12,107 – has told the district administration that his followers are demanding that he file for a recount.

Toward that end, the district has informed the Cameron County Elections and Voter Registration Department of Caballeros request and will meet to iron out the details.

The Elections Department said it required the candidate who asked for the recount to deposit $100 per each of the voting precincts and for the early vote, a total of some $2,100.

In case that Caballero can't overturn the results by finding 4,389 votes to be credited to his candidacy during the recount, he will be required to pay for the full cost of the recount, estimated to be between $30,000 to $40,000.

Caballero’s supporters told KVEO 23 that because former principal Frank Ortiz won a seat as Brownsville ISD trustee, Cabarello should have won too. The two long time school administrators had the same support and ran as a team.

“So consequently, those numbers don’t match. There is something definitely wrong, in our opinion, and my supporters’ opinion. We’re looking to ensure that the numbers have been properly counted. They were done through a machine, now we’re asking for a hand counted figure,” Caballero said.

The BISD, for its part, has announced that Garza won't be sworn in Thursday for her new term until the recount is concluded. However, that may be academic since the state's holdover provision requires the incumbent to remain on the board pending the outcome of the recount.

"She'll be able to remain on her position and vote on items before the board until the recount is completed," said a BISD administrator.

Hold on for the ride.

Questions on all the money that was lost the $1 million scam who's overseeing this Dr cantus is charge of operations she's not doing a very good job maybe this money went into one of their personal or friends account we need good honest leaders the maintenance employee administrator was just let go for buying a whole bunch of fertilizer it had to have been approved by Dr Cantu in the superintendent what a big cover- up hush hush

Caballero would be the man to put the main office people to work and clean house with all those LLCs running out of bisd offices. Us teachers got a few dollars extra so that others get raises and the board approved them to do it. Like one department had like all their people get new titles and big pay increases because dr cantu holds no one accountable because she wants to look good and get gifts for xmas. her secretary is already asking for gift donations. elizondo is the man right now to make bisd better again. too much cover up from the deputi that something is brewing and no one wants to check where the smoke is coming from.

Quixotic is NOT a word for politics, Montoya.

In politics, the chance to win is ALWAYS there.

Will his followers pay for the recount? I'd be interested to know how often recounts are fully paid for by the responsible party? Perhaps there should be a hefty deposit required to make sure residents don't get stuck paying for what appear to be bullshit claims.

What happened to all the money Elon Musk gave the district 2.5 million where did that money go?

Dude must be desperate he should blame his loss on Mayra MAGA LOL.

He's hoping that someone from Arizona, Michigan, or Pennsylvania has a few thousand ballots in his name that they can dump to help him. Negro or corrupt judge helps too.

Did the fertilizer scam administrator refund the money to the district? how did this scam slip through to get approval by dr.cantu?? Anyone else like a clerk would of been fired and asked to pay the money back. the way dr.cantu hides everything is by getting her friends out of sight. during the halloween give out several employees said that drcantu has all these people at portable locations so that no one questions her about their businesses. How come this is allowed? the clockins and outs are handled by one person. talk about a pyramid scheme with employees and drcantu doing them a favor???

Minerva Pena asked for a recount and she won. MAYBE.

She did not pay any money.

Victor Caballero has to find out how not to pay the recount and to win.

Lol!!
This idiot seems to think that he can come out ahead? He obviously lost! Dude needs to get over it.. he is a total LOSER! People obviously voted and it wasn't for him..

"... his followers are demanding that he file for a recount."

Victor is said to be listing to his followers who may be two or three. Why doesn't he listen to the 4,388 voters that voted against him. Those that voted against Victor know what kind of egocentric person he is.

Montoya what is the scandal with 1.2 million missing from the bisd and that the CFO left? Is there any info on this as per Erasmo. Damn too many things going on there with administration having side businesses with employees? is anyone investing this place?

He should ask Elizondo to donate some recount money from what he stole from the Bomberos.

Elizondo paid for Minerva's recount from the BOMBERO union money. She lost that JP race. Remember?

Correction to Anonymous (6:38 p.m.)

It was not 4,388 voters that voted against Victor, it was 16,495 voters. Does it matters to Victor to pay for the recount, perhaps not, he has been heard telling people that he is currently working in making his second million dollars in earnings in investments. Le vale a este vato.

I was going to vote for him but saw a pic of him holding a Mayra Flores sign and that did it for me. Voted for Elizondo and Ortiz but not for him. Lots of teacher colleagues did the same

Can you prove that he was for Mayra Flores? I'd like to see that picture.

He don't care the cost of a recount he'll recoup all that money in a week. RATAS know how to do it......
