DON'T LOOK NOW DEAR BUT THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD

(Ed.'s Note: Is there a mutation of pigeons going on in downtown Browntown? Some of our seven readers say that when Chris and Queren, over at the Jukebox Bar feed the pigeons, several light-colored – light red and white – birds have appeared to feast on the bread crumbs and bird feed. We're not ornithologists here, but they are different than the common pigeon, like the one peering out from under the parked car. We went to our Peterson Field Guides "Birds of Texas" and could find no species that resembled the couple above. At last count, there were about five of these birds among the rest. Does someone know?)

Both male and female pigeons can have iridescent feathers, but it is more common in males. The coloring of these feathers depends on the angle from which they are being viewed. For example, if a pigeon turns its neck, its iridescent feathers can shift from purple to green, or vice versa. This iridescent coloring stems from the physical structure of the feathers, hence why the iridescent colors on pigeons are called structural colors.

A pigeon’s iridescent feathers are a tilted latticework of tiny threads of pigmented material. In the wild, light waves reflect off of these threads, interfering with each other in the process. During this interference, peaks of light waves can hit troughs or merge together. When peaks hit troughs, we cannot see green or purple hues on a pigeon, but when peaks merge, we can view intense shades of green and purple. These two effects work simultaneously, giving pigeons their iridescent glow.

Pigeons are NOT solely "Birds of Texas"

again, your source is the wrong source.

They are all Rock Pigeons. Their plumage varies but they are all of the same species. They come in so many variations that no field guide could ever show all the differences in their feathers unless it was a field guide devoted exclusively to Rock Pigeons. These are introduced birds and are all considered to be feral, non-native species.

Woody Allen called them "rats with wings"

The primary issue is overpopulation. Culling is necessary in the City because the City does not have the predators that would normally keep the numbers in check. Overpopulation leads to disease and the filth that occurs off the side of buildings and apartment balconies - and statues :-) When a City announces it is going to cull and the nature freaks raise hades, so they avoid it altogether. Environmentalists much realize that if the predators are not keeping nature in balance, we must or pay the consequence.

Rats with a pen often migrate here like the idiota making stupid comments.

Could be their diet. Kind of like flamingos turning pink, cause of the shrimp and algae they eat. Maybe those pigeons hit the Oyster Barn, or that new fish taco place.

All COB needs is one or two falcons.

All local birds would shit in their feathers.

White Nationalist Hate Is Infiltrating Our Police

If President Joe Biden cares about what he calls the White Supremacist “poison…running through our body politic,” his administration had better get busy purging the strain that courses through the ranks of law enforcement.

Downtown Brownsville has rats all over. Go by at night and you can see them.
Street, electrical poles, wires etc

Now, that is an overpopulation of predators.

Bueno que tanto pedo con los pichones?

They are usually kept in check by various kinds of hawks, which appear to find them very tasty. The Rock Dove is native to Asia, and comes in many color variations. Not feeding them will help some - they may go to forage elsewhere.

The resident retard resists being educated. Probably the same inbred as the coco/hillbilly poster who rode the short bus to school.
