ELIZONDO, ORTIZ, SWORN IN; NEW BOARD OFFICERS PICKED

Unable to find a local judge willing to administer him the oath,  Elizondo asked Texas District 38 Rep. Erin Gamez – a criminal defense attorney – to swear him in to the Place 1 seat.
Port Isabel Municipal Judge Luis Hernandez swore in Frank Ortiz to the Place 4 seat.

Special to El Rrun-Rrun
With two new members sworn in, a new majority on the board of the Brownsville Independent School District quickly realigned the pecking order and – with two sitting members joining the two new ones – quickly reorganized and stripped the old majority of their positions as officers of the board.

New members Carlos Elizondo and Frank Ortiz were joined by sitting members Jessica Gonzalez and Minerva Peña to cast the 4-3 votes to elect Gonzalez as president, Elizondo as vice president, and Minerva Peña, secretary. Ortiz was elected asst. secretary by a 7-0 vote.

The swearing in, however, didn't go as neatly as planned.

Elizondo could not find a local judge willing to swear him and his mother-in-law, at the last moment, asked District 38 Texas Representative Erin Gamez to swear him in as a personal favor. Gamez barely made it to the ceremony in time to administer the oath. Perhaps the fact that Elizondo has two felony theft cases pending in district court gave the judges room to  pause.

Ortiz picked Port Isabel Municipal Judge Luis Hernandez to administer his oath of office.

Brown thanked the district, parents, staff and students for a lifetime of working there as a teacher and then as Public Information Officer.  "Thank you for the opportunity to serve," she said. "It was truly an honor and a privilege."

Outgoing Place 4 board member Prisci Roca-Tipton did not attend.

Elizondo, for his part, said he was glad to be back as a board member. "I am blessed to be back...and to be back to be a servant...I will be a fighter in the forefront...I am here to be a team member."

Ortiz, on the other hand, said that "the best is yet to come...I'm ready to go work (and) am here to serve you."

And observers said that when both men took the oath where they swore that they had not promised anything to anybody for their vote, neither Elizondo nor Ortiz raised their right hand to make the pledge. From a distance, audience members couldn't tell whether either one had crossed their fingers.

During the comment period, several teacher unions representatives (BEST, AOBE, TSTA, NEA, etc...) pointedly reminded the new members that they had promised them during the campaign that they would have a "seat at the table" and that "our voices would be heard" as the district came under the direction of the new board majority.

"You give us so much hope," said one. "We are hopeful that you will give us the respect that everybody needs...because before we were not allowed to have one (a seat at the table.)"

The new board members were told by the BISD-hired independent auditors that the old board had left them with more than three times the necessary budget to run the district day to day for a month, a clean audit of federal grants, and a healthy fund balance.

After conciliatory words by several members, Peña – who else? – reminded everyone of her 20 years as a state trooper, the advice of her Korean War veteran father, and said that because of the teachers in the district this was the greatest country in the world, by God. "Let's pray for unity."

Gonzales as President? I thought she was mute, for she never speaks at meetintg. She will be talked over by la perica Pena who never shuts up and
Elizondo will be running the show. Was he absent from work today?

What happens to Hitler and Musolini and their inept comparde Gutierrez?

Utter disaster for BISD.

It has no chance with this unqualified lot. Poor kids.

Teachers ought to go on strike. This is no schoolboard; it is a Barrio Pandilla.

How can the uneducated educate our kids?

How!

Elizondo belongs in prison.

Erin Gamez is officially blacklisted by any decent Civil Service Unions for swearing in a former Fire Thief. Not much of a surprise since Brownsville voters are so ignorant to vote for a criminal to make decisions for their own children. Bola de pendejos.

Ya Juanio!!! Stop with your bull. Stop printing the lies that you print. Everyone in Brownsville knows that Judge Gabby García & her Napoleon Bonaparte brother Eddie, are behind all of your negative posts about the officials in this city. Stop Juanio, Please.

Elizondo's case is pending. In this country you are not guilty because you have a case pending. Sorry Drue, you lost. Don't pull this stuff...elizondo won, you lost. Lets move on. By the way, happy for elizondo and happy for you too.

Guess where Gonzales celebrated after the meeting??? Olive Garden for the win! Extra bread sticks extra cheese all the way browntown!!! The Superintendent anda bien zurado, jajaja. La Deputy Cantu threw a big party at Maintenance but nobody wanted to be there only el Jerry Papaya. He had a huge gift bag ready for her. El Jerry no durmio. After Cantu left, el Papaya left too. People cry PUB, but BISD spends your tax dollars by the millions every year and Cascos company gets some of it. He is the bisd auditor charging double. Guys, clean up bisd.

There have been numerous comments on this blog about replacing local politicians because of their corruption. Yet, these same people continue to be voted back into office. This city will never thrive because of the ignorance of the population and the lack of unity among the voters. This is what happens when you have only one party control. Your choices are limited.

Juanito print everything, WE NEED TO KNOW, todas las raquetas que pasa aqui (sic). So we can vote intelligently.

Hard to believe any union or teacher association could back Elizando, especially with his anti union sentiment while he served as fire chief for the COB.

Tipton and Brown were not perfect but did support and vote for teacher payraises.

Gamez showed her true colors against labor by swearing Elizando in. No suprise she hires Republicans on her own staff.

The good people do not run for office. Why? They do not know how to survive this environmnet. Also, there is so much money involved, that you can be corrupted.
Also, the voters will not vote for the good ones....they will bring law and order and then it will be boring. They can change education at BISD, make students learn and become independent thinkers that demand quality and results.

It's so very embarrassing to have a School board president who is so ignorant, and illiterate. Does she even know what Robert's rules of order are? Can she read past a first-grade level? It's gut-wrenching to be represented by her, and two thieves. Frank Ortiz should stay away from those three. The circus is being run by Carnies. Let the GRIFTING begin.

Elizondo is indeed indicted, but thanks to our corrupt judicial system for delaying his due process this is his blessing. Cameron county citizens should keep in mind next time one of our owned are charged with a crime we have a precedent for delaying due process. We can hold our jobs for years and carry-on everyday life as long as we delay our due process you are FREE as bird. Elizondo should teach that to his students on how to Wessel out of a criminal crime. We must give our thanks to our so-called corrupt Cameron County judicial system. No wonder there was no Cameron County judge willing to administer his oath. Hope to God there is an FBI agent investigating this very wrong deed.

We just heard what the new and old board members said in last night meeting after taking their places in the board of trustees. However, what would Victor had said if he had been elected. "I" will lead you. "I" will make BISD great again.

Anonymous said...

"I am the most popular candidate of the three and yet I wind up on the short end of the stick." (Statement by Victor) Brownsville Herald Nov. 18 ("Recount set for BISD race")

The Cambridge English Dictionary defines popularity as the fact that something or someone is liked, enjoyed, or supported by many people.

In the recent BISD Board of Trustee election, Carlos received 13,358 votes, Frank received 16,011 votes, and Victor received 11,695. So, according to the Cambridge English Dictionary definition of popularity, who is most popular?

Erin Gamez is a lawyer. She works with criminals. She knows how they think.

That is how lawyers put criminals in jail.

That is why she went to help Elizondo.

Jessica, with all that kick back money you have received, with you selling your soul to the devil; aka Carlos Elizondo. And being guided to look like a fool and puppet for Minerva......can you please go get your teeth fixed! It's hard to try to listen to the spew of shit that comes out of your mouth. I had hopes for you that you would of done the right thing. But aligning your self with a thief and Minerva was the worst you could of done. But it's ok, you are up for re-election your new friends will find someone to replace you. As they are already working against you...open your eyes!

Jessica please do a makeover. Time for an upgrade Jessica, I know you can't get the barrio out of your life, but please now you represent biSD. Daniela has money but is a big show-off with her designer purses all over the schools. all her life went to SJA private school and still can't be relatable to the staff. Denise is all bleach blonde and is always looking bitter. Denise is a back stabber and never trust her. Minerva does vote for teachers and front workers. Jessica, Get it together and don't be posting yourself at Stripes eating for lunch . Girl, BISD has a lot of gay guys, ask them for a makeover. Just don't ask JJ De Leon for advice, guy goes to the alleys for his Botox. Stay away from this grifter. Do something about Cantu who has overspent on all construction.

Erin did the right thing…she represents the People in our community. You want her to ignore the needs of the “sinners” ….her job is to represent her district—-not judge them.

How did Brownsville voters elect a piece of shit Carlos Elizondo for SCHOOL BOARD? Are we that STUPID?

Anonymous said...

In regard to anonymous, Nov. 18, @ 12:46, Elizondo is indeed INDICTED and for this every reason he is allowed to run free as a bird and delaying his "DUE PROCESS". You mentioned IN THIS COUNTRY, meaning U.S. this corrupt school district leader is allowed to be free and ignore all his past and overdue criminal activity, because he has not been sentenced or convicted, allowing his due process to run, well keep in mind that this Cameron County school district indicted criminal individual is ONLY running for CAMERON County, a county that is all set-up by corrupt sitting ducks such as judges, law-enforcement, corrupt political leaders. and not to forget our so-called auditor who is following all the monies of the county, especially the oil and gas royalties.
This is more favorable to FAVORITISM and BIAS based on friendships and factors other than merit. than anything else. This is my opinion.

Personally I didn't vote for the thief but others did. Sad.

You know that drue and prissy lost because of the superdiente's inability to manage nor lead bisd. The candidates that lost and the board that remains is so blind to the issue of the superintendent. The winners won because of the superdiente and his deputadas. Is fix that could have been taken care of quickly but they waited and now the consequences. Drue and prissy got rid of the last superdiente and in this last election, the superdiente got rid of them. Go figure.
