It's light out for the workers at the old Wells Fargo Bank building that became the Cameron County building on Levee Street.
For the last few days – since the Tuesday before Thanksgiving – the building has been in darkness after the aged electrical system blew up a transformer and the offices there – the tax collector's office, the JP courts, and all the rest, IT Dept. etc., – have had to utilize generators and extension cords to stay in business while the system is being serviced.
So far, the county has been mum about the cost of replacing the entire system for the building.
County officials have been uncharacteristically silent about the electric failure at the old bank. Calls to county commissioners and the county judge's office have, until today, gone unanswered. And staffers at the Levee building say that they have been on generator power since the system went down.
For now, departments are telling their staffs to work from home or on Zoom since all the computers are down at the building. Estimates are that it might take as long as a week or even two to get the system up and running again. If your vehicle registration expires at the end of this month, it might be a good idea to get clicking on it before Wednesday.
We'll see how long they can work in the dark.

The Christmas parade will be at the bike trails and conclude at the flea market. All traffic light will be turned off and police will be at every bike trail intersection (abt 150). Old man Santa will be riding a 3 wheel bike with a load of candy. All RATAS (local elected officials) will be riding in 3 wheel bikes giving out push cards.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, taxes, all utility bills, water and garbage, resace fee salaries for executives (only) will be raised 20%.
