Montoya reported on this case. Many people knew what really happened because of Montoya. The visual images that Montoya presented of this incident remain in the heart of the residents of Brownsville.
Couple having breakgast. The criminal arrives. After escaping from the dentist appointment and crossing the body of water. The bad guy, forces the husband to give his keys...then he kills the husband. The bad guy escapes in the stolen car and he is chased by the police. etc
Nobody forgets what happened, thanks to Montoya. Some Brownsville residents have chains in their gates and fences. Others lock their doors. The new generation have cameras in their properties.
Lets deal with some facts. Cameron county turned down millions of dollars to pay for the CPS defense attorneys to avoid federal oversight. I did an open records and you have court appointed attorneys dragging out frivolous cases and in some cases earning more than judges.
This is not to defend ERIC. It is to ask how does the county get to say they do not have the money when they turn down federal assistance to avoid federal oversight?

The county cannot turn down the federal funding and then claim a budget problem which impacts the sheriff.

The federal government removed ALL their federal inmates because they DO NOT have any confidence in Eric Garza and his unqualified administration. The county is losing over 4 million dollars yearly of lost revenue because of Eric Garza and the loss of the federal inmates.
So... The county commissioners refroze some jailer positions because you are 400 inmates short and don't need the 25 positions because your minus 400 inmates.

12:03, at no time did I defend Eric Garza. Some of what you say is true, but I watched the County Commission meetings. They made it clear they have a budget shortfall. All I did was point out they turned away millions in federal grants to avoid federal oversight, and instead of just conjecture such as you are using, I posted the web page with the page number so everyone could see it for themselves.
Further, I have been in Sheriff Garza's office over a domestic abuse situation which the BPD ignored [Helen Ramirzez for protecting the BPD Chief is knows she now has no future] and continues to ignore. His office called me in immediately and we began to work on it. But not only jailers work for him - you seem to not know that. I am not blogging because I am too busy working federal agencies on all these issues.
I will tell you my story on Saenz's daughter in law being arrested for possession and an illegal gun has gone missing. I will tell you I believe it was the following day Norma Hernandez called me and told me to download the probable cause affidavit and other documents before they disappeared. I have no idea who told her. The Board of Judges [meaning all district court judges will not investigate the leak] The file is gone from the system. I have theories but not facts.
I have forward the documents to a host of federal and state agencies. I did include the most likely theory. While it is true Saenz was to remove himself and give it to an a DA in an adjacent county, if they rejected it it then went to the Criminal Section of the AG's office. But it remains a Cameron county case. So why did it just disappear? So far no one can find them or if DPS found them they are not speaking. The case just disappeared. This is where my time is.
I have spoken with enough deputies to believe them they are short handed in ways which have nothing to do with over sight at the jail.
Commissioners court does not get to turn down free federal money and then claim they have a budget shortfall and leave county offices under funded.
The Sheriff needs more people patrolling the streets and investigating. Domestic abuse cases can take a lot of time.
You might get educated and learn there is more to our sheriff's office than the jail.
And what proof do you have 400 federal inmates were removed because of Garza? This is a common issue all over the U.S. there are many variables.

He is short handed in many ways. the officers are not patrolling when they are guarding the grand juries. The jail has zero to do with the lack of patrols and enough investigators. Now that reality matters to you but he won the lawsuit by the county and so for every major lawsuit in federal court. Some remain, but time will tell. Nearly every sheriff in the country has lawsuits against them for one reason or the other.

A consumer warning. It has been several days since Amazon sent me an email my account has been credited for an oversized item.
