The massive federal raid at a prominent Brownsville physician's home on Charmaine Lane Wednesday was authorized by a search warrant issued in furtherance of an ongoing medical fraud investigation that included the prosecution of a physicians assistant who worked in his wife's chiropractic and counseling clinics, sources assert.
Some 40 to 50 federal agents swooped on Dr. Alberto Almeida's home at 3702 Charmanine Lane to execute the search warrant related to the Medicare fraud investigation of Physician Assistant Fernando Mendez who had been indicted for practicing with a suspended license at CCI Therapy Counseling Centers International, one of which is located at 908 Paredes Line Road in Brownsville and managed by Almeida's wife Sandra Garcia.
Almeida's attorney Louis Sorola said his client had no role in the alleged fraud and said he had requested an explanation from the FBI on the scope and authority of the search.
Mendez was indicted and arrested on September 2022 over the alleged crimes, according to a press release issued last September by U.S. Attorney Jennifer Lowery. The raids, some speculate, may have been the result of evidence provided by Mendez to the government on his employment at the CCI center here.
The Texas Medical Board suspended Mendez's license to practice medicine as a physician's assistant July 20, 2021 deeming him to be a "continuing threat to public welfare" but he continued to practice in various mental health clinics across the Rio Grande Valley and billed his services to Medicare.
The USAO's statement said Mendez would bill under the names of physicians who he knew were out of the country and filed bogus reports to the Texas Medical Board to conceal his improper practice of medicine.

A late client of mine did 5 years in the federal penitentiary. He was in recovery for a kidney transplant when the PA did all of the alleged wrongdoing. I was not involved in the case. I learned after he got out of prison.
I reviewed the federal pleadings and because he was the sponsoring doctor for the PA, he was accountable for the acts of the PA. Three months after the Covid vaccine came out because of all the corruption in Dallas he died of Covid because not even the transplant facility could get him the vaccine.
All over Texas doctors are opening multiple clinics and hiring PAs. The doctor is never there. They have far too many clinics.
The feds are aware of this and we can expect more indictments.
Also know when you call for an appointment demand your appointment is with the actual doctor and not a PA or Nurse Practitioner. There are many great PA's and nurse practitioners out there. But there is also too much fraud.
There will be more indictments. Under the law it does not matter if the doctor was involved. The doctor has a duty to oversee the PA. This simple rule caused my former client 5 years in federal prison.
I am not saying anyone is guilty, but based on my friends case, because he failed to supervise the PA while recovering from a kidney transplant he went to jail.

All the time I go see a doctor, a PA is there and I have been going to see this doctor for about 8 years I do not know the doctor, he has never seen me and I have never seen him. If I see him any where I will not recognise him cause I see only the PA.

Yes, it is common now for so many doctors to assign their PA to do their
work for them and the doctor never sees that patient. I had a horrible
experience in a procedure done by the PA and I informed my primary doctor
of the incident. I have a real professional doctor who took it upon himself to speak with the doctor and requested that I be seen by him directly the
next time I was referred to him. He did attend to me the next time and no
problem.
Then I did get a bill from the PA but the doctor had signed the report.
How does that work. If the doctor is in direct control of the situation,
why does he/she allow these things to happen. Yes, I say, the doctor who is 'superving the PA should also be held accountable.
Maybe this raid was due to the possibility of records being held in their
home to prevent discovery of misdeeds? Who can we trust now?

Whose doctor's pin number was this physician assistant, Fernado Mendez using to bill the medical services? Physician's assistant do not have a Texas Medical doctors license. They are supposed to work under the Primary care doctor. If this Dr. Almeida was allowing this criminal to use his doctor pin # to bill than Almeida knowingly, intentionally, willingly allowed for this corrupt scheme to continue all for his share of the profits. According to his attorney this came out of the blue. No sir, this cheat was way overdue.
