CITY MANAGER: A CHRONICLE OF A SELECTION FORETOLD?

Special Meeting, on January 09, 2023, at 5:00 p.m., in the City Commission Chambers, located on the Second Floor of the Brownsville City Hall - Old Federal Building, located at 1001 East Elizabeth Street, Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas, 78520. 

POSSIBLE ACTION ON ANY ITEM(S) AS DISCUSSED IN EXECUTIVE SESSION NOTE: The City Commission of the City of Brownsville reserves the right to discuss any items in Executive Session whenever authorized under the Texas Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code. 1) Consideration and ACTION, if any, related to the appointment or employment of a city manager and authorizing the Mayor to execute a contract with the selected candidate. (City Attorney)

A special meeting of the city commission is set for 5 p.m. today to decide which one of the the two finalists left in the selection process will be given the job.


They are Rick Davis, formerly the city manager of Baytown, and the current Brownsville Interim City Manager Helen Ramirez.

The city commission voted to authorize Mayor Trey Mendez “to negotiate and execute a contract with the selected candidate” at their January 3 meeting.

If the city and the candidate can’t agree on contract terms, then the job could be offered to the runner-up.

This should be, not even close, BUTTTTTTTTT, just keep in mind this is el valle, where nothing is what is seems to be. There seems to be a chance for this rata town to get back on line with the rest of the NATION....
