RIOT OF COLOR EXPLODES AS MURAL COMES TOGETHER

.

(Ed.'s Note: For the last month, Artist Susana Rubin de Celis and assistants have been laboring on the mural that has brought a splash of bright color on the walls of the old Fallas building at the corner of Elizabeth and 9th streets. Until the work is finished we won't know the painting in totality. But now the general outline of the creation reveals two hands cupping a heart that exudes a kaleidoscope of multi-colored butterflies.

The building belongs to Benito Garcia, who, with some assistance of the Brownsville Incentives Corporation grants and his own money, is single-handedly beautifying the city's inner core and has restored nearly a dozen buildings by hiring artists to paint murals such as the one above.

How can I apply for a painting grant so I can hire a over price artist and assistants to paint my home better than that mess of a painting downtown. How much money did the owner fork over for junk of painting? Next time hire an elephant that will work for peanuts to do the painting.

Local talent is no talent.

I've seen drawings made by Hiroshima victims of floating dead charred bodies and melting bones more pleasing to the eye.

Too much color, too much going on. A few butterflies with clouds and a few flowers with a tree would of sufficed. Sometimes simplicity is better. I give her credit for her effort though.

Is that a severed heart on the hands? Isn't that kinda gross? Who ordered this mural la, pinche bruja???
THEY ALL NEED TO GO NOW DO NOT RE-ELECT NOBODY EVEN TO ANOTHER POSITION.

WOW these commissioners are getting out of hand allowing people to paint cut out hears of people. That cut out heart must belong to one of the city commissioners, but which one???? any ideas?
ENTIRELY GROSSSSSS

A newer low for the city commssioners. A painting of a hanging would have been better than a cut out heart dripping blood.
THEY ALL NEED TO GO AND NOW DO NOT RE-ELECT NO ONE EVER AGAIN MAYBE THAT HEART USED TO BELONG TO ONE OF THESE IDIOTAS CITY COMMISSIONERS.
WONDER WHO? ANY GUESSES????

I am not going to walk by that cut out heart mural with my children this is insame and uncall for. GROSSS IS NOT THE PROPER WORD FOR THAT TO BE DISPLAYED IN A DOWNTOWN BUILDING. PINCHES PENDEJOS..
any sex scene would have been better.

Being on Elizabeth street also known as Old Hwy Route 77 that would've been a perfect spot to paint the letters of BROWNSVILLE with paintings within the letters of important sites and things in this town. It's kind of cliche and in every other town, but it gets the message out what your town is about. Plus it makes for a nice destination picture. Someday Brownsville will get it right... someday.
