AFTER MORE THAN A DECADE POURING SCANT CITY ASSETS INTO BIKE AND HIKE TRAILS, BUS RIDERS STILL WITHOUT SHELTERS

(Ed.'s Note: While millions have been poured into hike and bike trails used by a small number of Brownsville residents and are provided with state-of-the-art shelters with benches and luminescent trails so they can see in the dark and even bike parking racks. But bus users like the man with the crutches above must wait on the side of the road exposed to the elements waiting for Bus Metro to arrive. When called out on the lack of shelters,

Bus Metro spokespeople are always promising new shelters that somehow never seem to appear. When the bike an d hike trails first were thrust upon the city and its resources proponents like city commissioner Rose Gowen promised that they would fuel a "active tourism" that would bring millions to the area. She also said that the health benefits included a decrease in diabetes.

Well, none of that has happened, but the hike and bike committee – whose appointed members make decisions on the city's set-aside bike and hike transportation fund – continues to pour city assets based on her rationale. With Brownsville labeled as the nation's unhealthy city, it is obvious that the city's priorities are badly mistaken. How long can this go on?)

I know and understand that tragedies happen in people's lives but some of these people chose the life they have. I mea come on Montoya look at you. You are still dondole porrasos a la vida. Que se la partan ellos tambien. While some choose to bust their ass others choose to live it up. It is the story of the "Red Little Hen."

We all work for what we got.

This will continue for as long as we allow it. This is also easier said than done. Corruption needs to be eradicated from the city government for starters. Get rid of the cancer. Once this is done then a new slew of HONEST candidates need to run for office. Then maybe just maybe our town might get back on track. WISHFUL THINKING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. Unless we take a stand and do something, thats all it will be wishful thinking. Year in and year out we are stuck with the same corrupt self serving leeches at city hall. Brownsville just survives but doesn’t thrive because of this abuse.

Jessica Tetreau, are you gonna bring bus shelters to Brownsville the city you so claim to love and want to do great things for? 3 terms on the commission and nothing on bus shelters.

John Cowen, are you going to bring bus shelters to Brownsville? 1 term on the commission and nothing on bus shelters.

I'll take my chances with the stranger candidate Stanton.

Juan the city of Brownsville BCIC 4B EDC corporation receives about $2 million dollars every month from sales tax money, check out Texas state comptrollers office website, these bus shelters are an eligible item that the BCIC can spend funding on along with road repairs, check out the list online for eligible items these funds can be used for. El porter homie.

People do use the bike trails. What no one uses are the designated bike routes that just clog our local traffic. Just try driving down 7th street at around 5 PM. Local Democratic politicians hard at work creating chaos. And the chaos continues!

In our city election, it will all depend how many of the candidates voters not only "like the candidate" but actually GO VOTE. There is NOTHING wrong with riding the city bus (cheaper than gasoline), if we had shelters (at one point we did) they are never maintained. Same thing happened with the shelters BISD put up for the students. When people had the shelters, they graffiti them, they destroyed them (both city and school district). We want our elected officials to do their job but we expect to get away with destroying for our own benefit.
