CATY PRESAS-GARCIA: WHAT'S AT STAKE IN DISTRICT 2 RACE

Dear Citizens of Brownsville and District 2

I come before you to offer you my candidacy for District 2 City Commissioner for City of Brownsville and to ask you for your vote to represent you.

My main desire for running for this office is because I think that after a lifetime of living here and raising my family in our city, I am filled with a love of our town and residents that will motivate me to find solutions to the challenges facing our families.

I am proud of Brownsville because it is a beautiful city with resources that are the envy of other communities across South Texas. Unfortunately, we have not had the leadership that we need to work for us, the citizens.

It’s time we stop the abuse of corrupt politicians and elect people who respect us and our tax dollars. I am an independent thinker not aligned to any special interests. I abhor compadrismo that creates mediocrity and drives competent people away because they are not socially related or economically connected to a socioeconomic elite. I am of the people and for the people.

As a mother and wage earner, I understand the challenges we face. The PUB fiasco that has enriched some fat cats and resulted in artificially-high utility rates needs to be resolved.

The Tenaska Funding Project Money is gone (our hard-earned money was misused), and conditions in our city remain in distress. Basic infrastructure like drainage and street repair are wanting while we have a city commission which insists on emulating cities like Austin and Dallas. We live in South Texas, in one of the most historically-significant communities in the United States, but unfortunately, we are seen as a Third-World Country.

Property taxes are high, but that wouldn’t matter if they were used to provide basic services to everyone. But this is not happening because we have not been able to reach a consensus on what kind of community we want to be or what kind of legacy we want to leave to our children.

We need to get to work and I am ready to work for all citizens. My parents taught me to not be afraid to work and through this letter l wish to share with you my intentions, to offer my background information, and to honestly state my opinions on key issues so you can be fully informed when you vote starting in early voting April 24 through May 2, 2023 and on election day May 6. .

I was born and raised in Brownsville, and have lived in District 2 for more than 20 years. I graduated from Porter High School and am currently a business owner and Texas-licensed Realtor. I served as a Brownsville Independent School District board member from 2008 through 2016, as a legislative chair for Brownsville Board of Realtors from 2019-2021, on their insurance committee from 2012-2014 , the budget committee from 2012-2014 and was also nominated to serve on the national Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) 2013-2014, the North Brownsville Little League Board 2002-2008, and the Brownsville Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) from 2010-2015.

I have loved and relish the opportunity to work to improve our community and collaborate with our neighboring cities to improve the opportunities for our South Texas region families.

Like you, I have borne the pain of increased costs and prices of the properties in our city market. I am a strong opponent to the many city, county and state-imposed fees that stifle the economy and make home ownership more difficult for our citizens.

This being said, I believe there is a distinction between affordable housing and cheap housing. I wholeheartedly support anything that makes buying and building homes more affordable and aggressively oppose anything that cheapens the important elements of our town. Dense urban dwellings in the heart of Brownsville is an element that cheapens our city’s character and a factor that in the long term will make single-family detached housing available only to the wealthy.

Anyone who commutes daily knows that our roads need improvement. The traffic congestion in our town is a serious problem and we need to put pressure on our local and state governments to fix our roads. As a port city and an international crossroads, our contribution to the state and federal governments has not been returned.

Specifically, we need to widen certain streets near schools within our District 2. We must stop closing off roads that reduce circulation. Natural disasters like tropical storms have shown how woefully inadequate our traffic system is in an evacuation. Improving our roads goes beyond just shorting our commute, it may be a matter of life and death.

As an independent thinker I feel I owe it to my supporters not to shy away from civil, but forceful debate on issues of importance to our residents. We should celebrate and embellish some of the things that make our community unique and special such as:

 The protection of the beauty of our natural environment

 Accessible, affordable, and safe living in spite of the issues of border violence

 An environment friendly to local businesses

 Property rights and freedom from oppressive and intrusive bureaucracies

 A safe and clean community to raise a family

We can protect and improve all of these things if you and me – the citizens of Brownsville – speak with a strong and unified voice. I am optimistic that as your commissioner, I can lead the charge on these issues and usher in a future for Brownsville that will give our next generations a town just as special as the one where we all grew up and learned to love.

I thank you in advance for your time and kind consideration. I would be delighted to have your support in this election.

Caty put up a sign on a fence and the fence fell no mames, hell to the eff no I wont vote for you, you've deceived us too many times, history has a tendency to repeat itself, no gracias

A strong independent voice. Sometimes unreasonable…but sticks to her convictions. So go for it…

I remember what you would do at the aquatic center, the missing checks and many other things, I'm sorry I cant support that, you had your chance already. It was your actions that made us lose faith in you and I still wouldnt trust you till today.

No far enough on BPUB investigate but by a law agency with consequences if found illegal transas and a promise to do so than just maybe you can get my vote and my family and friends votes. Everything else sounds ok, no details hopefully that will come later. Its a beginning we the citizens were hoping for.

We did not forget that you stole money from the aquatic center, we did not forget that you sued B.I.S.D, and we did not forget how you utilized your position to mistreat others. We will forget you during voting time.

She’s forgetting ALL the embarrassment she caused the BISD community, while on the board. She forgets about the rude person she can be big loud mouth and vulgar, hasn’t gotten her anywhere, nor Brownsville. All her campaign has been on the constant blasting our city. What about the money she stole or took home for safe keeping. She wants to lead the city and the constituents without an ounce of education. Well, maybe a HS diploma and working for Victoria Secret, and numerous secretarial positions, where she was ONLY a trouble maker. Sadly, most intelligent well educated citizens do remember her negative impression she has left Brownsville with, and will give her a final farewell. We want respect, honesty, true educated leadership. With innovation and positive outlooks towards Brownsville’s future. Friendly, peaceful and progressive. No loud mouth pushy aggressive , negative people.

I believe this the first time a candidate actually reaches out to your readers Montoya. At least that i can remember. Wonder why??? The train has passed you by Cata . You pat yourself on the back so much and yet your awful history speaks for itself. You had your chance and you blew it !! Get it through your head. Your past history will always haunt you and follow you. You’ve lost every race after BISD. Doesn’t that tell you something? Many of us remember, we don’t forget. I’m sure your parents also taught you right from wrong but you definitely didn’t listen to them. Life is about decisions and the consequences that follow, well these are the consequences of your deeds. So sorry ma’am but you won’t have our vote, EVER !!

Anonymous said...

Let this 3 time loser run again? Didn’t she sue BISD? Appoint her to the rat patrol.

Anonymous said...

Pobrecita Cata having Laura "CRAZY" Cisneros as supporter, she is a sore loser nothing more than a cucaracha. Guranteed she won't win.Cisneros is nothing more than a scoundrel

One thing we learned about Cata’s attendance, while representing BISD school board, is that she made sure she found herself a male friend to buy her drinks at happy hour conferences and conventions. No wonder BISD has not progressed and still losing more students to private and charter schools. She also flaunted herself as better than anyone else, when she marched in at the glass palace. This is where all secretary’s and staff celebrated, winning blue ribbon schools and many other recognitions. The real ones that deserved recognition and celebrations were the STUDENTS and hard working TEACHER’S!!

Juan Montoya:

So many intelligent people write in this blog. I am not very smart but I learn a lot. Such eloquence, such deep thoughts, such memory. I do not remember what I did yesterday.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Cata, even as your Commadre I will not vote for you mija. Let it go. All of your family wants this to be over soon. Macias will prevail. Cata you get so angry and pissed off all the time just like you did in BISD and all is about vengance. You know who I am Commadre Cata. Also, that other bff of yours Lucy Longoria is so corrupt and she makes you do all kinds of lawsuits. Cata let it go, please your favorite Commadre.

All your detractors are here crying their eyes out that your bad and we can't heve you elected. Bullsit, your the only one with enough balls to stand up for what you believe in. So don't listen to these idiots, keep it going and don't back down. Plus your the only one not connected to the others Jessica, Roy !
Keep them honest, were conting on you.

Que Bonito pelo

Anonymous said...

Now you decide you can be Brownsville’s savior!! Why didn’t you say all this from the get go of your campaign? You’re desperate!! Not that it matters cause we all know , from your past history , that you never keep your promise’s. Once you get elected its all about you, you, you!! So do us all a huge favor and stay home, Brownsville doesn’t need you.

Linda Macias is nothing more than an OPPORTUNIST!!!!Since she cannot make it on her own she becomes part of a slate. She is going around kissing Roy de los Santos's, Jessica Tetreau's, and Brian's ass. She is young and clueless. Her bullshit education did not teach her any common sense. She may have a master's degree but a respectful ctedible professional counselor she is not. She teaches at a high school which shows the level of skills she has. So I would rather vote for an experienced business woman like Caty Presas than an airhead like Linda. She thinks the biggest most pressing problem her district has are lack of sidewalks. Dah!!! Really is that the best you can think of. All the above comments are done by either Linda or her bunch of kiss assers. She has a big ego and is a narcissist. So don't come crying and have regrets that if she is elected she will be another Jessica Tetreau. Be careful what you wish for.

Wow are you sure Caty stole money? What if I said Linda Macias stole money from Sombrero fest. See how easy it is to lie about things. So you accusers are nothing but losers who slander people without proof.Son una Bola de ratas como los que estan en el comite de BCIB.NOW THOSE PEOPLE ARE THE ONES WHO CAN EASILY WALK AWAY WITH MONEY UNDER THE TABLE. LINDA SHOULD HAVE RESIGNED HER POSITION BUT SHE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO FOLLOW THE RULES.

Same individual who while accepted to serve in the BISD board, turned around and sued it BISD? No thank you.

Anonymous said...

JUST TELL ME YOU WILL INVESTIGATE BPUB AND THEY ALL WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK, OTHERWISE NO VOTE. P E R I O D.

Anonymous said...

@8:54 No mater who wins this race BPUB will never give us money back! That money is gone, get that through your heads people. We may never know who is responsible so we need people in there that will not let this happen again.
Vote for experence and someone that will not cave into the others greed. Now pick canidates that fight for what's best for Brownsville.

Juan decisions are hard to make, will the folks in brownsville ever see justice? with all the BPUB scam lots of folks involves, former mayor Martinez mr blue jeans, former mayor and now County judge Eddie trevino, current mayor tray mendez, forrmer BPUB ceo Johhny (Banana peel) bruciak the former COO and CFO at PUB makes you wonder thast this scheme was not done by one person, it was organized. Maybe we can invite Dateline or 60 Minutes to do an investigative story and we can then see all the pieces of the puzzle, just saying.

Juan THE best candidates are all these new ones, JENNIFER Stanton, LINDA Macias and BRYAN Martinez, I hope they ALL win and change Brownsville, cuz it sure needs a huge LAXATIVE to get rid of all the SHIT WE GOT HERE. Anonymous said...

Is this what you want: more useless bike trails, give away city and county property for free (boca chica and who knows what else), more potholes more red lights at every traffic light no airport flooding, reseved parking downtown for connected persons (blue bags on meters). Their first priority is to help themselves, their families and all their voting friends.

IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT? DO NOT RE-ELECT NO ONE.
