CONJUNTO COMPETITION JUMPING AT TSC'S EL CENTRO CIVICO

(Ed.'s Note: You still have time to listen to some of the best up-and-coming conjunto musicians from elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the Rio Grande Valley. The competition will go until 5 p.m. or so when the winners will be announced.

Hardly a half hour after the noon opening of the competition, the bottom floor seating was almost full, as was the raised seats section at the back of the Texas Southmost College Jacob Brown Auditorium [El Centro Civico].

In the middle shot, the Los Fresnos Elementary contingent gags it up for the camera.

And if you want a keepsake from the annual conjunto competition for you or your tootsie-wootsie grab a puro conjunto t-shirt to encourage the youngsters for only $20. The vivacious Letty Lerma, a conjunto fan since birth, will gladly assist you. They come in red, blue and black. Me estas oyendo, Chucha?

Our gratitude to organizer Carlo Hernandez and the entire staff for all their fine attentions.)

$20 is $10 too much.

Not for me.
