Will he or won't he?
For months – perhaps even years – political observers have wondered not whether, but when, Cameron County Pct. 2 Constable Abel Gomez would declare himself a candidate for Cameron County Sheriff.
So in the end, after long consideration and talking it over with his family and supporters, Gomez confirmed that he is staying put where he is.
"It has taken me a while to get everything clicking right here and I thought of the mess that has been created at the sheriff's office right now and I decided to remain where I am," Gomez said over the weekend. "I already told my staff that I will be staying here and not run for sheriff."
Gomez's decision will affect the political aspirations of candidates who assumed he would be running for the position now held by Sheriff Eric Garza, and those who have declared to run for the constable's position he now holds. Expect the jockeying to begin once the news of Gomez's decision get out.
So far, at least three candidates have announced they will run for sheriff and one or two said they would run for Pct. 2 constable. Will they continue running now that they know Gomez has decided to remain in office?
We'll stay tuned.

The Mess he refers to is the cat fight between him and Garza over the budget that Lucio had passed on to him for favors. When Garza rightfully requested the budget go back to his office, Gomez' panties went on a bunch.

El Coria is BARRIO, puro BARRIO, but forgets he came out of the hood. The Barrio was HOT. Everyone there remembers how he handled that situation. No votes for him from the hood. No respect for the guy. What will happen when he realizes he lost, will he run to the SO with Garza. Will Garza welcome him with open arms. Will he give him a rank position in gratitude for making Gomez sweat it out.
