FOLLOW THE FRUIA-EDGE-BCIC-BOARD MEMBERS (QUID PRO QUO?) MONEY, HONEY...

Jorge Green commented on Apr 26, 2023
(I don’t know about the details of this transaction but I know these people. Anybody that knows them or knows of them will tell you the same thing without exception John and Felicia Edge are some of the best people I know. Their contributions to local causes far exceed the amount reportedly awarded. I have no doubt that there aren’t nefarious intentions. There’s no way that they would do anything illegal or unethical.)

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Remember the furor caused last Thursday when the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation administration almost passed an amendment making board family members eligible to receive up to $200,000 in BIG 2.0 grants?

If not for sharp-eyed public advocates who alerted the Cameron County District Attorney's Office of this obvious conflict of interest, the item might have passed and relatives of board members, city elected officials and municipal employees would be lined up to harvest the grant money like low hanging fruit. In fact, the pattern of awarding of money to board members and their relatives has been the pattern at BCIC since the Limas chairmanship.

On May 2019 John Edge and Felicia Fruia-Edge create Sharper Edges Investments. At the time Fruia Edge was a member of the BCIC board and Michael Limas was the board chairman.

The following month in June 2019 Cori Peña got promoted from part time to full time, a pay increase.
The awarding of grants to family members was the modus operandi at the BCIC with the chairman's brother Fabian, who co-owns Las Ramblas with his brother, getting in on the action the next month on June 27, 2019.

On July 30, 2020, BCIC board member Arturo "Turi" Treviño's brother Alejandro got $10,000 for a start-up as did Pedro Cardenas for his Mi Pueblito Restaurant, before he was elected as a city commissioner. Chairman Michael Limas cashed in on the action, as did his brother Fabian who double dipped for his law firm and Las Ramblas.

In July 2019 the board approved BCIC CEO Peña's HR recommendation where Felicia Fruia was on the Hiring committee. In August 2019 Felicia Edge got awarded $35,000 for 409 E. 13th Street facade, signage and interior improvement grant. In that same meeting the board approved travel for Arturo Treviño, Fruia-Edge and chair Michael Limas to travel to San Antonio.

Meanwhile, in December 17,2021 Felicia Edge applied again for the same property for the same thing but now uses a new address of 409 E. Levee St and under Curio 409 and gets awarded $75,000. In fact, there is no such address in the city.
Now on April 27,2023 Felicia Edge applied again under Curio 409 E. 13th Street for the same improvements to the same building and gets awarded $125,000. All were recommended by Cori Peña.
In less than 4 years Felicia Fruia Edge and her husband have been awarded grant funds to do the same repairs to the same building that has no roof, 3 walls and a building that was fully operational since 2018. Taxpayers' money given them a total of $235,000. That’s two hundred and thirty five thousand dollars.

If you don’t want to believe that this could be construed illegal and a quid quo pro and that the board members have used this BCIC board as their own ATM for the St. Joseph alumni think again.

Is that $235,000 of our money for one person in exchange for a job,? And does the job description in this one sems to be to look away and get a hefty pay increase?

Is that why they wanted to change back the guidelines to allow the relatives of elected and city officials and the families of BCIC members to apply so they could sweep the large-scale giveaway to  already in play to board members under a Persian  rug? This was going to be their way of legitimizing their wives and relatives unfettered access to the BCIC funds and the citizens' hard earned money.

The City of Brownsville should offer citizen meetings to explain this program and avail help to those people who express interest but may not be from the city's wealthy population.

Have an OPEN BCIC FAIR to expose citizens to what's available!!!

Insiders with friends on the BCIC Board are being coddled and preferred.

Not good.

With Cowen or Tetreau as Mayor expect more corruption and less accountability and ethics. Juan a Nazi group wants to advertise on this page, it's easy money. Strong work ethic, family, and God is their message.

This is Grant monies that Cameron County had being stealing from the true heirs of the unclaimed mineral proceeds. Instead of following the instructions of the 1986 Getty oil Settlement to put the proceeds into a TRUST FUND and the 25% of escheatment monies these corrupt Cameron County so-called political leaders were depositing the proceeds into shell companies investments. This Sharper Edge Investment was incorporated on May 22, 2019. Very convenient for these corrupt attorneys and leaders to set-up a solution to complete their plan on how to continue to steal grant monies intended for the quality of life for Cameron County. Ratas con ratones at the max.

This is a lesson for all boards in the city with the ability to give grants: Never give one red cent to Zeke Silva. Even if he gets only 99% of what he wants, he'll trash you online. Make up conspiracy theories - like this one - that will be repeated for years on end until know one knows what the truth is anymore. Just say no to Zeke Silva.

WOW!! NO SUCH ADDRESS!! Does this qualify as a fraudulent application? Oh! I forgot, It's Brownsville's self entitled name on the form. APPROVED!! D.A. Saenz, This pile of B.S. is overflowing with so much quid pro quo B.S. Or are you saying to yourself "It's unethical, but not illegal.

Wow!!!!! How I admired Mr. Edge, I thought he was a hard working honest man. I am beyond heartbroken and disappointed. My children always though the best of him and even bought their cars there at his dealership because their admired him so much. So, so, so sad that Mr. Edge is not who we thought he was.

The Secret Society of elite recipients has to change. City leaders and DA have given them the freedom for non transparency.

IF ALL THE INFORMATION IN THIS ARTICLE IS TRUE, then something smells rotten with this BCIC. And to Mr Green who wrote so eloquently about his friends the Fruia-edge, do you seriously think they are going share with you if their intentions are nefarious ( as you put it)?? Do you think they are going to ask for your permission for them to ask for this money. Yes, they may be “ nice” people in your eyes and to many other folks but $$$$ money is one the many tools the devil uses to take your soul. MONEY makes people greedy!!!! The more you make, the more you want, whatever means possible . So now it seems that all eyes are now on BCIC and the Fruia-Edge’s . Even The DA ‘s office is taking a peek. WOW!!! what a mess!!

The Federal FBI should be involved into this intentional, purposely, knowingly, willingly, corruption committed by these so-called professionals. This president of BCIC, Cori Pena intentionally committed a conflict of interest. She awarded grant monies entrusted to her department to the Fruia's, Limas's, Cardenas's and many more, knowingly that it was unethical to award such grant monies to their own BCIC board members. When she decided to play the unethical card she got caught. She not only illegally unethical committed the offense once, but many more times knowingly that what she was doing was unethical. The former president of BCIC Josh Mejia should also be investigated to see if he set the precedent as to awarding grant monies to his favorites board members. The reason being is that the Frui got the grant monies while Majia was president of BCIC. The set-up corruption of awarding grant monies to enrich board members and newer business instead of to the small business that are struggling is a crime, because that was the whole purpose of the grant monies. Hoping to see this Cori woman fired and done with. She wanted to play the card of corruption, now she must pay for her decision to deceive the real entitled recipients. Life is a bitch Cori when you get caught. May the lord have mercy on you.

Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation ( BCIC) the name should say it all.For Community Improvement folks, not to be confused as an ATM for the rich and famous. If all the stories coming out are true, was this entity like many other ones in Brownsville setup to benefit only a select few? This is another example of the failures of the city government. No checks and balances required here !! Right under their noses these entities seem to operate to benefit the elite. And with no one to question them or monitor them when the bylaws or procedures are changed to benefit the shady benefactors. My question is : aren’t these practices ilegal??? And if they are, don’t they warrant an investigation??? If this town is to going to turn the corner on corruption could this be the beginning of that. THE WORLD IS WATCHING!!!

Juan, the more time passes the more we realize Cesar De Leon was right about corruption everywhere. El wey si sabia. Lo malo que el pueblo le dio la espalda. Perdónanos, cesar!

With all the money coming in from BCIC(as per the articles), maybe now we won’t have to put up with those ridiculous tv commercials with that guy( cross between Don Johnson and Vito Corleone) walking around(in the white guayabera )like his shit dont stink. Well if these Fruia-Edge ( dealership) wanted exposure , boy are they getting it now!!! Shame on them and those that allowed this mess. How embarrassing!!!

My view on the matter is simple; a person who chooses to run for public office is to willingly and publicly serve the community without particular interest or benefits for themselves or a family member!!! Question; isn't it unlawful to get paid to vote? This should apply to any person or group of persons appointed, voted in for the office, or a community chair at any level in local, state, or government office. Getting paid to vote on any monetarism agenda IS CLEARLY CONSTRUED AS TAKING A BRIBE!!! Is it NOT a BRIBE to be paid, receive a gift, or a benefit to vote?

Makes no sense.
