ODE TO A BROWNTOWN POTHOLE: A TRUE LOCAL SYMBOL

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

1. This is my pothole. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

2. Just as a rifle is to a Marine, my pothole is my old friend. It is part of my everyday life. I must treasure it's unique local character as I must treasure my life.

3. My pothole, without my car driving over it and getting damaged, is useless. Without my pothole, I am useless. I must drive over my pothole true. I must aim straight for it, straighter than the other drivers who are trying to avoid it. I must drive though it before the other guy does. I will …

4. My pothole and myself know that what counts in this motorists' war is not the shocks we ruin, the noise of our burst muffler falling off, or the smoke that our car now emanates. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit it, like a bull's eye, and hit squarely….

5. My pothole is almost human, even as I, because it is me. Thus, I will love it as a brother. I will learn its breadth, its depth, its unique features as it grows with each passing shower. I will ever guard against its ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my cracked windshield, struts, ball joints, ruined steel-radial tires, and – most importantly – my  mechanic's job security and that of the city's Public Works employees who patch the streets. I will aim for my pothole straight and steady. We have become part of each other's economy. We will …

6. Before Da Lawd, I swear this creed. Our potholes and we are the symbols of this city. There are potholes in other Rio Grande Valley cities, but none like ours. We are the masters of Browntown, this pot-holed empire. We are the symbols of local life.

7. So be it, until potholes rule here, there is no enemy, but dry weather!!

Now for the sad, this rata city is spending millions to remodel old gringo owned warehouses as a gimic to bring in tourists!! millions on bike trails that nobody uses, millions for gringo owned businesses to spend as they wish with out paying back (grants), millions on wired fences to keep the so call illegals out of city owned property, millions on murals for the downtown delapidated unsafe structures, millions for salaries for all elected officials (they meet once a month plus frenchies), millions to unknow sources (nobody knows), millions of tax free property that all elected and friends DO NOT PAY FOR EVER... and who knows what else they are up to!!!! they do as they wish PERIOD!

Juan, there are potholes all across the Valley. Not as many in McAllen, but that's the region's better neighborhood. Btw, it's not YOUR pothole.

You lie.

It belongs to COB. Dare to write facts, son!

You're at sea-level, Montoya! Think that plays a part in this? Of course, it does, but you would rather try to be funny. And, at that, you fail. A writer you are not. Other city bloggers have told you that.

Oh, well. Brown Blogger Montoya has a free blog, so he will type, type, type his days away.......

pity.

Never fear my fellow Brownsville citizens, Roy De los Santos our “hardworking “ commish will cover up all those potholes ONCE HE GETS DONE WITH ALL THOSE FLAG RAISING CEREMONIES AND TAKING PICTURES ( dont hold your breath). . Lets see if our new Mayor and new commissioners get in the action also.

What's troubling here is this blogger's decision to make something bad seem funny. Potholes are never a good thing, and certainly not ones to be characterized as these are.

Why not go ahead and take a photo next to it, blogger?

You're either totally bored or you've given up trying to do something about these dangerous and annoying potholes - both awful impressions you leave behind here.

Dare to be better and more in-the-know of things ailing your community. Poverty is never funny, Montoya. Don't ever forget that.

Should check out the potholes on Ringgold Rd the street that divides TSC from UTRGV. They are like moon craters!

And on that note of Ringgold Rd. something has to be done about BISD's BECHS Early College. It's a two way tiny street that gets backed up all the way to University Blvd. Traffic light can change 10 times and you ain't moving. Plus there's no sidewalks on the BECHS side for the students to walk so they are literally walking side by side with the cars. Stay away from this area 3:45PM to 4:30PM. And GMS with their trash can container inches from the street, so students have to walk around it and into the street. Why can't they put it in the apartment parking lot? But this is Brownsville, where nothing gets fixed.

TEXAS MOM OF FOUR DIES AFTER MEXICAN TREATMENT -

The individual died from a fungal brain infection which US doctors believe was contracted from un-sterilized equipment south of the border. They are the third person to have died from fungal meningitis after traveling to Mexico for discounted plastic surgeries after two Texan women died last week. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes more than 200 Americans who traveled to clinics in Matamoros between January and May 13 could be at risk.

Now, that's a story.

Cartel-Murdered Bodies Found In Mexico:

GUADALAJARA, Jal.

As usual, "Anonymous" has to come in with his dumb commentary. Get a life, son! You besmirch the jist of the blog's commentary. Reflect on the content (whether you like it or not) but, not on the writer. You have to be a freakin' MAGA freak.

If you look at all the potholes in the city you would think this is the poorest city in the country. However, if you look at all the banks in the city you would think this was the richest city in the country. So what is it? Inquiring minds want to know.

What do cartels have to do with potholes? Are they going to fill them with bodies?

Anonymous said...

And if you report potholes to Public Works, it takes 3-4 weeks to get the repairs done. But if bike lines or trails need repairs, they respond ASAP.

Grant monies for rhe wealthy can be used to fix pot holes.

Who the hell cares about some dumb people who went across the border to get plastic surgery.

I once drove away from HEB during a rain storm and of course the streets flooded. I cracked the 2 rims on the passenger side with a pothole that was under the water. Dealer wanted $800 per rim. I said no and went and got 4 aftermarket rims and new tires for $2000. Courtesy of the floods and potholes. And yes AH, I know that as a san jose pinche coco gringo I need to open my own blog and quit chingado!

6 guys were sent to patch up a pothole on Lincoln Street. One did the work and the others were on their phone. They patched one hole in an hour and did
not bother to patch the other one 5 feet away because it was not in their work order.

Why not pay someone to survey the city street by street and see to it that pot holes are marked on a map, and depending on the number on one street, determine whether to repave the whole street. As they others wait, have them
survey the trees whose branches overhang the electrical wires and jot it down to report to the Public Works Director. Why?S It makes too much sense Use some of that grant money for such projects to make B
Brownsville streets look like 77 Sunshine Strip in Harlingen and San Benito.

Also, Bryan Martinez, get to work and show Galonsky what she should have done.

The city is so unethical, they've been industrializing East Brownsville, catering to trucking companies like TVS/STN, Transmaquilla, and others. Allowing these companies to have caliche parking lots and no sound barrier proof walls. These businesses are allowed to create as much noise and dust pollution as they want. Planning and Zoning and our former commissioners like Jessica Tetreau, John Cowen, and Roy de Los Santos don't care about the psychological and a environmental impact these businesses have on the public and especially the unfortunate individuals who are adjacent to these companies who were not notified of the zoning changes or provided due process to contest the rezoning. Brownsville is being transformed into one of the most environmentally toxic, criminal, and corrupt places in Texas. God damn you!

They complian and complain and promised and promised the city was going to fix the streets and the park and the pool if they could annex. we voted for it and what happens nothing. they never kept their promises none of them. where's the park and the pool they promesed to fix? they sold the land and build houses, the streets are full of potholes and have never been fixed. Rio De Sol subdivision is the same as it was when the city annex it. liers

Anonymous said...

What if all the potholes are fixed? the elected officials could not use that as a promise, if elected, they will fix, but they do and they don't. its like pasa la botella Syndrome. So now you know any official looking to get elected and starts with this lie should not be elected.
