COB'S ANSWER TO WOMAN STANDING IN 100-PLUS DEGREES? BUILD MORE UNUSED BIKE AND HIKE TRAILS TO LOSE WEIGHT

(Ed.'s Note: At the risk of beating on a dead horse, if you had come down from another planet and saw the disparity in priorities displayed by the local Brownsville government, you would probably assume that the natives were more interested in building hugely expensive structures for the enjoyment of a few while subjecting others [like the woman at top] to endure the elements waiting for a bus without any shelter from the elements.

Whether it's the torrid temperatures and unrelenting heat of summer, or the northern gales and rain of winter, bus riders and pedestrians must walk along streets without sidewalks and wait for a bus in a bus "shelter" that consists of a sign on a steel pole without a bench or shade at the mercy of the elements. Each time that the city commission and BUS Metro are questioned on the matter, the honchoes at BUS quickly promise that there are another 20 or 30 shelters coming, jut be patient. BUS riders like this woman are still waiting, and will probably continue to wait standing under the blazing sun. 

On the other hand, funds for bike and hike trails are automatically included in any Certificate Of Obligation [COs] issue having to do with transportation and in the city's annual budget. The millions that

"active" tourism that proponents of the hike and bike trails like commissioner Rose Gowen asserted would be attracted here by these huge expenditures have never materialized, and since few people use the trials, the health benefits to the community won't either.

Our space traveler is probably scratching his bulbous alien head at this city's priorities and conclude that they are all with Armstrong, that is, on the moon.)
