Just as the COVID-19 outbreak slowed down over the past year, a new outbreak is starting in Texas. It was recently reported a fungal meningitis outbreak led to the death of 10 people.

According to the CDC, fungal meningitis is a rare life-threatening fungal infection, and it causes swelling around the brain and spinal cord. The people who were infected had an operation in Mexico.

The CDC said anyone who had epidural anesthesia at two clinics this year in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico from January 1 to May 13, 2023. Matamoros is across from the border town of Brownsville may be at risk. The clinics where patients were infected were River Side Surgical Center and Clinica K-3 and they closed operations on May 13, 2023.

Despite the closures, people who visited these clinics during this timeframe, are at risk for fungal meningitis. The Mexican Ministry of Health provided a list of names to the CDC for people who had operations performed during the timeframe mentioned.

KSAT reported one mother of three from Brownsville had cosmetic surgery in March and recently passed away.

According to the CDC symptoms of fungal meningitis includes fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, and confusion. Symptoms could take weeks to develop before a patient recognizes any signs.

The CDC urges anyone who visited Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico this year to go to an emergency room or health clinic for an examination.

CDC issued a health advisory on May 17, 2023. The last major outbreak of fungal meningitis was in 2012 when 753 cases were reported, and 64 deaths in 20 in the United States.

That is why people should not go have cosmetic surgery done in 3rd world countries. If you go you go at your own risk. Is a set of bigger tetas worth the risk of leaving your children motherless?

Current Update

Updated Case Counts

Fungal meningitis is a rare, life-threatening fungal infection that causes swelling of the areas around the brain and spinal cord. People can get infected during medical procedures if all infection control practices are not followed.
Background

CDC, the Mexican Ministry of Health, and U.S. state and local health departments are responding to a multinational outbreak of fungal meningitis among people who had procedures under epidural anesthesia in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Officials identified two clinics associated with the outbreak: River Side Surgical Center and Clinica K-3. These clinics were closed on May 13, 2023. Anyone who had procedures under epidural anesthesia in these clinics from January 1 to May 13, 2023, is at risk for fungal meningitis. Learn what to do if you are at risk.

The Mexican Ministry of Health provided CDC a list of U.S. residents who had procedures at River Side Surgical Center or Clinica K-3 from January 1 to May 13, 2023. Using this list, CDC and state and local health departments are trying to reach all people at risk but continue to face challenges. Some of the listed contact information is incorrect or incomplete and some at-risk persons have been identified who were not on the list. These people are being reached through outreach efforts like media and social media and through family, friends, and other contacts found during public health investigations. Health departments are encouraged to continue to raise awareness. CDC’s social media toolkit for partners provides graphics, videos, and messaging in English and Spanish to help with these efforts.

Anyone who is at risk for fungal meningitis should go to the nearest emergency room right away to be tested. Testing is done by a lumbar puncture (LP), also called a spinal tap. People who are infected should begin antifungal treatment as soon as possible.

Surgery always carries risks . These risks may come in many different forms( anesthesia, malpractice, reactions , bleeding etc). But unfortunately these risks are magnified when these surgeries are performed in 3rd world countries. And to top it off they are of the cosmetic type. Is it worth your life for some bigger breasts or a “ curving” body ? Freedom of choice exists but so does common sense. My opinion.
