"The sheriff’s office refused to assist (Cameron County Constable) Pct. 1 in the pursuit and left the deputy alone while he was getting shot at. Pct. 1 asked for Cameron County Sheriff Department Office assistance and Sheriffs Office said they did not have any units available. The suspects got away. Later on, the same suspects that got away ended up shooting a San Benito Police Department officer (RIP). Maybe if Sheriff's Office would have assisted the Pct. 1 Constable and the Texas Department of Public Safety they would have caught these guys the first time and all Law Enforcement would be safe..." (Ed.'s Note: If the above-statement is correct, did the failure of the Cameron County Sheriff's Department to render mutual aid to their law enforcement brothers and sisters result in the shooting death of a San Benito police officer? With any luck, the ongoing investigation into the officer's death will include looking into the communications between the CCSO and Pct. 1 Constable and the DPS and may shed light on its performance, or lack thereof. RIP).
A San Benito police officer was shot and killed overnight following an hours long vehicle pursuit, the Texas Municipal Police Association reported.
According to preliminary information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Tuesday afternoon troopers assisted Cameron County Pct. 1 Constable's authorities with a vehicle that was evading arrest from a traffic stop.
The pursuit, which originated on South Padre Island, later resulted in an officer-involved shooting with the San Benito Police Department, DPS stated. The Brownsville Police Department identified the officer as Lt. Milton Resendez.

Two suspects have been arrested in the case and are being held in custody in Cameron County jail.
At a news conference, Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz called the shooting a “part two of a criminal episode.”
Around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, a red GMC truck was pulled over by Cameron County Park rangers for speeding on the beach at South Padre Island, Saenz said. The truck was occupied by two men, two women and two children.
While the driver was being questioned outside of the truck, the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat and the driver jumped into the bed of the truck, speeding off. The truck was spotted in Port Isabel and a pursuit ensued, involving the Cameron County Pct. 1 Constable’s Office and DPS.
The truck was found disabled and authorities began looking for the two suspects near the 511 area of Brownsville, around 5 p.m.
At 10:30 p.m., the suspects were spotted again in a black Ford Expedition, and another pursuit began. The pursuit reached San Benito, where Resendez was fatally wounded.
Rio Hondo school board member Jessica Alvarado Gonzales told MyRGV that she heard shots fired while driving home and was told by a state trooper that local agencies were pursuing an armed suspect.Gonzales told reporters that she was on her way home from Harlingen when she approached Sam Houston Boulevard and saw police activity ahead of her.

The pursuit then returned to Brownsville, and suspect’s vehicle was stopped by a pit maneuver. The two suspects bailed from the vehicle before DPS troopers were able to apprehend them. The pursuit entered Brownsville, and gunfire was exchanged between the occupants of the truck and the officers. The suspects will be arraigned Wednesday afternoon on charges of evading arrest, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and capital murder, Saenz said.
(Sheriff Garza was also conspicuous for his absence at the press conference attended by other law enforcement reps and police chiefs.)
She was attempting to cross the intersection with 77 Sunshine Strip to continue on Sam Houston but the road ahead was closed, and in front of her were other motorists who exited their vehicles to take video or see what was going on... “As I look over there to see what’s happening, I see a Border Patrol truck get on a median, and everyone is trying to get there around AutoZone on Sam Houston Boulevard, which is where I think the shooting happened."
“While I was talking to the officer, I see these units cross because they were coming from everywhere. The Brownsville direction, on 77 from Harlingen, from the expressway, from Rio Hondo and Los Fresnos – all these police cars from everywhere were just showing up in all different directions,” Gonzales recalled.

tempest in a teapot.
get over it.
First and foremost, had it not been for the fuck ups of the Park Rangers, this whole show wouldn't have started. If only they were real cops like SO Deputies, they would've not lost the struggle they got in and know how to handle the pursuit before the pussy supervisor called them off ala "it's not our problem anymore since Pct. 1 picked up the traffic". Were the SO units, short staffed as they are, busy or did they refuse to help? Funny how these small piece of shit agencies are the first to talk shit when they never help out the SO. But when shit hits the fan, their dumbasses call the SO to save them.
Law enforcement is not pretty, Montoya.
Crime and death chase it daily. Human failure is part of the deal. No need to weep more than necessary. I know more than you.

My condolences to the family. Police officers put their lives on the line everyday. Those that support defunding law-enforcement don’t realize that deaths in the line of duty by criminals like this is all too common. God be with the family.
they were all at a coffee and donut break (45 minutes) and can't be disturbed.
Funny how all the brass at the Sheriff Dept, Garza, Silver, Dani Gomez, Rivera, Lopez, el wannabe jerry always find people or themselves to do movie night at the SO or are all crammed up at the Texas Roadhouse politicking for the house mouse paper pusher but they can NEVER have enough units to cover the county. It is called extremely poor leadership, if you want to call it leadership at the SO. The Titanic has sunk and it is at the bottom of the ocean.
I hope the brass enjoys there 9-4pm Saturdays and Sundays off. There wasn't even a supervisor on duty last night. pathetic
they were at events and it’s more important
@ 1:25
Hopefully you never have use Law Enforcement ever. An officer died last night
someone lost a husband and a father. You Prick. FU and your stupid comment.
Less than a year from retirement. Poor Officer and his family. May he Rest in Peace.
Thank goodness the city of Brownsville backs the blue, backs police and fire with 70% of the budget! Defunding the police is not a thing for our city!
RIP MY FRIEND. YOU WILL BE MISSED. MY CONDOLENCES TO LT. MILTON RESENDEZ FAMILY. BACK THE BLUE. 1*.

Que los quemen con leña verde a esos criminales.
The killers will get death sentence which is
automatic with the death of the law man.
The Rio Grande Delta’s SYMPATHY for ILLEGAL ALIEN SCUM has cost a police officer his life. This MORONIC ideology of “these are our people” has cost an AMERICAN serving his community his life. You STUPID MEXICANS of this region need to pull your head out of your asses!
1:25 not the time for your pathetic joke. I understand this is an informal blog but someone’s son, brother, father or husband just lost their life (putting their life on the line) protecting yours and your families . You should be ashamed of yourself!!! My condolences to the families involved
Where was brownsville PD
Planning a marathon?
Taking pictures for face book?
This is a tragedy.
@12:35 who calls the SO to save them? Lmao stupidest shit I've ever read. Literally no one calls the SO for anything. You'll are pathetic rejects who can't get picked up at a good agency.
Here comes all the pathetic BISD ex-Deputies commenting as if they would've saved the day. They couldn't even stay to help the already short handed Deputies but are talking shit as if theirs don't stink! People talking shit on Deputies when they were short patrolmen while employed at the CCSO. Talking shit on supervisors when they weren't chosen because they were fuck ups. Talking shit on admin when they were trying to suck dick for 'job security'. Instead of talking shit, apply at the CCSO and work the streets. Show all of us how bad yall really are
Montoya who ever paid you to “redact” this article is a disgrace along with you. To use the death of a brother in blue in the line of duty to bash and blame the Sheriff for it. You guys have no respect, integrity or dignity. Also, to be clear we did respond to the pursuit, whoever told you otherwise is a lying p.o.s and the sad part is that he probably works within our ranks.
-
Eric and his office are the biggest joke right now in Cameron County! Short handed? I wonder why? 101 your badge doesn’t work or you just don’t know how to respond to calls? Out with this guy and all his bull shit deputies like Carlos Garcia acting hard
The CCSO should of had its clerks, civilians and students respond to the pursuit. Everyone knows they’ve received more training than any CCSD deputies. Such a sad time to have those unmarked vehicles Eric’s cheerleading team have sitting at motel parking lots or being used to fill groceries at Heb.

Looks like really its time for a change at the Cameron county sheriff dept. Eric the clown has to go. We all know he is worth 3 peanuts and thats muncho. Eric you hafd your chance and blew it, time to bring in a new chango. chon.
Stop assuming. No units available isn't the same as refusing to render aid. From a former police dispatcher, i would hate for someone to have quoted me of saying i refused to send anyone.
Rivera and Eric Lopez are really looking forward to given candys at the office on Halloween. so they dont have to patrol. hope you all enjoy while it lasts. who you going to leave in charge? Chuck???

You said it perfectly. Park Rangers should have been the ones to continue the pursuit. Guy should have neve been allowed to leave the beach. When the passenger makes move to take the vehicle, the power ranger should have taken driver under custody. If he couldn't at least join the pursuit.
Nobody is mentioning PORT ISABEL, they should of been there to intercept. They are the dept. that does not work with any other department. They can see DPS, or SO engaged and they turn the other way. This time it was the Park Rangers, and they still did nothing. WEAKEST DEPARTMENT EVER.
Pct. 1 main Constable has no people skills and maybe not liked by many, but in a case like this, that should be put aside and they should work together to prevent tragedy.
Everyone talking Sh... about SO. Judge Trevino has been the number one person interupting the procedures of the SO. If he would approve the funds needed for pay raises, for trainings, for equipment, the SO would run better. If the citizens of Brownsville Vote Erik Garza out, what is Judge Trevino going to blame next for wanting to keep the money that should be going to the SO. If workers leave the SO, its due to the low pay. Its also due to the lack of support in the shifts, due to the SO can't compete with other agencies due to the pay.
God Bless the family and to everyone involved.
Hope our dept. leaders can use this to light a fire and come together for the good of all.
Judge Trevino do the right thing and approve the funds for the SO to run the way it should. It is not your right to get rid of Erik Garza on your personal vengeance or ego. Let the citizens of Cameron County to remove or keep him. If you are going to control the SO and the Sheriff's success or lack of, Might as well just appoint the person you want in the position. That way you can have your personal puppet that will do all you want.

Most people in Brownsville respect the police. Some people tell lies to the police but the job of the police is to educate people and to convince them to solve their issues on their own. The police deals with criminals, violence and people carrying guns.
We need another type of police: to deal with dogs, disgruntled customers, abusive neighbors, etc.
This is the time to make the police better and to educate the residents of Brownsville and Cameron County.
This officer will not die in vain.

Estos vatos locos (Rogelio and Rodrigo) are big babies: RoRo. Raised the wrong way. They were never told to be respectful, to follow the law, to work for their money, to have good things in their brains. Their neighbors know them, their former teachers know them, their girlfriends know them. Their grandmother knows them.
Nombre, los chiflaron bien feo. Juntos se dieron alas para hacer el mal.
These guys were supposed to get up early to work, to do chores, to cut the grass.... they were at the beach, being rude to the police, driving like crazy and killing an officer. Muy chingones.
Maybe if Democrats closed the border...
Still want to know who the prosecutor was who let the black man who killed three women on SPI escape a guilty verdict.
Chief Garcia where were ur security guards??? Where were u??? Prolly wit ur sancha..... dnt know why ur subordinates feel like there even entitled to talk smack when all u hired are disgruntled unhappy dudes.... instead of talking or pointing fingers everyone should set ur anger aside and mourn our fellow brother in blue. PERIOD.
ELDELASPRIETAS MOTHER GIVES GOOD MOUTH HUGS AND NO TEETH!
The Brownsville PD, to protect and serve. Unless, protecting means taking liability for a situation in our city and having to do the subsequent paperwork. A little fun tidbit about the Brownsville police department is that there is an unofficial rule of no pursuits. If an officer is enagaging in a traffic stop and that car takes off, the officer is NOT to follow and cause any type of accident that would put the department at fault. While this is not policy, many supervisors have stopped their subordinates from engaging in pursuits. This is why on October 17, 2023, when a lone DPS trooper called for back up pursuing a vehicle that had already shot at officers, Brownsville PD officers were told to “not get involved”. The DPS trooper endlessly called for backup over the radio asking BPD for their “20” and got no response in return. This resulted in the DPS trooper losing the vehicle and the suspects getting away. The same suspects who would later that night shoot and kill San Benito officer Milton Resendez. Now, I’m not saying that Brownsville PD getting involved would have saved the life of Officer Resendez, but there is a possibility. Some may say that things always play out as they should or that when it’s your time to go, it's your time. What I am saying is that Brownsville PD needs to do better. Why should it take an officer getting shot in a town over to finally get involved in a situation wreaking havoc in OUR beautiful city. To the supervisors who kept BPD officers from getting involved earlier in the evening, I hope you are doing well, at home, alive, with your families.
How can you not pursue a suspect that struggled and assaulted your officers? The stupid park rangers should've continued to pursue to aid the other agencies who also eventually joined that pursuit. But to call off a pursuit and pawn it off to another agency shows how much the park rangers are really worth. Those retards just focus on looking "tactical" meanwhile they are a bunch of pussies that talk shit. The dumbasses are just the rejects who couldn't become SO Deputies and the Constables didn't want to hire them. And as far as the disgruntled BISD employees giving their opinions, how does it work guys? Yall peddle and beg Angel for space x OT then hop on to the rrun section to talk shit on the agency that allowed your bitch ass to work OT. Quien los entiende?
THE ONLY PERSON TO BLAME HERE IS THE PERSON WHO SHOT THE OFFICER.
PURO PINCHE CAMERON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE ALV
@ 11:33am we can agree that the Park Rangers are the biggest pussies in Cameron County. Doesn’t your brass silver Cisneros come from Parks? Probably why the sheriffs office is the way it is. Because Eric is stupid and so is his brass
Worthles fucks Eddie (I'm too good for eveyone with a stick up my ass) Lopez and Mark (el know it all christian that criticizes everyone but never sins) Elbert. What an embarrassment. Eat shit!

109 is a piece of shit for telling SO deputies not to engage but follow from a safe distance. No wonder his dumbass never made captain
Yes the park rangers are the biggest pursues in Cameron County. If it weren't for the allowing the suspects to get away the Lieutenant would still be alive.
Funny how SO is the first to show up at different calls and take pictures to post them on FB. How many pursuits has Eric posted on FB. But not this one? Hmm I wonder why you didn’t post this one Eric? Could it be because you all didn’t assist on the first pursuit? Because patrol was busy? What about CID, SIU, that stupid bitch Carlos Garcia? Their badge doesn’t work? I’m just waiting to see if rosas wins, if not I’m outa here. Fuck you and your pussy ass minions
What about Carlos Garcia assistant Mark Lerma with a gross looking pony tail? His badge doesn't work?
