DECISIONS, DECISIONS. TAKE THE HIT, OR RISK A HIT

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

It's come down to a dilemma. Do we want it to rain so that our poor garden plant and grass can come back to life? Or do we want the drought to remain so that our city potholes don't break up again and provide job security for the city's Public Works patch crews?

The pothole above on Old Port Isabel Road and Coveway Street is in the running for the Grand Canyon Pothole Award from the City of Brownsville. But the competition is deep and we're sure there are other entries across the city which can rival it. Looking at our entry, we understand why they describe it as a "yawning" pothole. All it needs is some unfortunate driver to stifle it by driving into it.  As unofficial, self-appointed  pothole judges here at El Rrun-Rrun, we are asking for entries to the contest from our eight readers. Please limit it to one entry per person to rrunrrun@gmail.com

Think now.

Where is the pothole that messed up your shocks, where your car lost a bumper, where you messed up the steel belts on your tires, or loosened a muffler, or maybe even cracked a windshield? Try to remember because as soon as we get a heavy rain shower, they all come back to life and the patch fill, as can be sen above with our entry, spills out into the curb.

Now, suppose you are the driver nearest to the curb above. Do you slow down and try diminish the damage, or do you swerve left to try to avoid the hole before you and hope the guy behind you on your left swerves also  – if there's no oncoming traffic  – and misses you? Choose wisely.

With the high increase of our property taxes our streets can easily be paved in gold. That is before the gold goes into some politicos pockets. Vote all current politicos out. We need positive change.
