A combined force of firefighters from Brownsville, Port Isabel and Los Fresnos battled a massive fuel-fed blaze that damaged at least a dozen trucks lined up to leave the Port of Brownsville to Mexico.
Reports indicate that fire crews responded to the port at around 2:45 and found several tanker trucks in a parking area on fire. There have been no reports of injuries. What sparked the fire is not yet known.
It might be well to remember that these trucks – pending the completion of the East Loop – will travel through the streets of the City of Brownsville and past schools, housing projects, churches and barrios.

Why are port commissioners and administration asleep are the wheel on this issue?! Why do they let tanker trucks full of fuel park over night at the port? Don’t look for Ralph Cowen.. he is traveling the world with his good buddy and fellow port commissioner John Wood 🪵 on the taxpayer’s dime.

Juan i remeber as a kid the oil tank trailers that would roll down intenrational blvd for years texas oil company, Robertson tank lines etc, from the port to matamores etc and yes there were accidents i remember one at souhtmost and internation where the Stripes store is at now but in the old days it was a valley shamrock station, anyway thought by now the port of brownsville exe director who boast allthe time about how much money (Taxpayers that is) the port has would by now have their own fire station at the port and with thos enew LNG plants soon too arrive wouldnt that be a great idea, just saying, Mr. Common Sense aka el porter kid.
Poor truck drivers were stranded too long without food waiting for Mexico to let them cross back to Matamoros. Drivers likely started a camp fire to cook and stay warm but the drivers fell asleep and an unattended fire resulted in the explosions. The Port and/or the Trucking companies should have provided security, food trucks, porta potties etc.

These folks that drive these trucks are not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed.,,

The Cameron County Fire Marshal will investigate I'm sure. Could have been a death sentence for the Bomberos.

You are correct in asking this.
This is a problem all day long but it has peak hours where the trucks stop at the bridge. There is no movement and cars have to go under, beside, next to, the trucks to turn to the UTRGV campus. Very dangerous situation. That is another accident that hopefully will not happen: a student, a staff member, a professor getting killed by a big truck.
UTRGV needs to do something to protect their students and employees.
They know about this problem. They see it everyday. Just like you saw it and I saw it.
juan dont they have these types of fuel terminals in Harlingen and La Feria too? Wonder if these cities are better prepared than the port of brownsville?
