Brownsville Independent School District
Interim Superintendent of Schools
As per the National Weather Service via a conference call this morning, the inclement weather continues to worsen. It is predicted to be freezing most, if not all day Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
In an effort to keep our students, faculty, and staff safe during this inclement weather, we will cancel classes, for all students and district staff, on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Some essential employees may be called to work to address emergency school business.
The district may need to make up the day however we will be submitting a waiver request to the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) for their approval to not make-up the cancellation of the instructional day.
All staff is expected to report to work on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, to their designated campus or department. We will follow the modified student start time for Wednesday as per the memo sent out on Friday, January 12, 2024.
Administration will continue to monitor the weather forecast for any changes. If more changes are required, we will communicate the information immediately. Please continue to check the district’s website and social media outlets for further updates based on information we may receive from local and state agencies.
For more information, you may call 956-548-8000 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday or BISD Police Dispatch after business hours at 956-982-3085. Stay safe and warm.

Don't we wish we hadn't canceled school for a certain lousy football team now
This is always taken into account for teachers only. Lets see, they only work 5 months out of a year but get a yearly salary, vacation plus incentive days off, city, state and federal holidays about 45 days off, birthday and other import have to leave days off (45 days off), the normal 3 (95 days) months off and the good will special vacations another 60 days off.
WOW MY PROPERTY TAXES REALLY DO WORK....sic
All of the above:
Stop crying! Just live with it.
184 work days minus 2 this year
Wow 182 work day schedule
Love it
Oh lord, learn to live with the weather. Life does not stop for 40 degree weather.
9:51 AM
As per state law the day needs to be made up.
Complain, complain, complain leave the teacher be, all mamas are teachers and they don't get paid. Actually, there should be no requirements to be a teacher only to be female PERIOD. People are strange, by the Doors!!!
40 degrees!!! Shit it was 29 this morning PENDEJO.
Hey! “Teacher” Asshole at 9:51 am. I bet you don’t even pay property taxes at your Section 8 pad. I bet you also want all the illegals but don’t tip them at the street intersections. I bet you also think that TRUMP led an insurrection… which is impossible 🤔 unless they were armed. But, how I digress. What I meant to ask was if you really wanted your dumb illiterate fatass kids to attend school today anyway? And if not, why should the “rich” teachers be there?
