SUCCESS: SPACEX LAUNCHES STARSHIP FROM BOCA CHICA, CRASHES INTO THE INDIAN OCEAN AN HOUR LATER

CNBC

SpaceX launched the third test flight of its Starship rocket on Thursday and reached space, as the company pushed development of the mammoth vehicle past new milestones.

Elon Musk's company launched Starship at about 8:25 a.m. CST from its Starbase facility near Boca Chica, Texas.

The rocket has now flown further than previous tests, with the flight expected to take an hour before it ended in an attempted splashdown in the Indian Ocean. The rocket flew further than previous tests, with the flight lasting about an hour before Starship broke up above the Indian Ocean. The company noted that the vehicle did not splash down in the water, which was the intended ending of the flight.

“We have lost Ship 28,” SpaceX communications manager Dan Huot said on the company’s webcast.

The flight represents a significant step toward SpaceX completing prototype testing and beginning operational Starship launches.

Musk congratulated his company in a post shortly after the launch, announcing that “Starship reached orbital velocity!”

The Starship system is designed to be fully reusable and aims to become a new method of flying cargo and people beyond Earth. The rocket is also critical to NASA’s plan to return astronauts to the moon. SpaceX won a multibillion-dollar contract from the agency to use Starship as a crewed lunar lander as part of NASA’s Artemis moon program.

SpaceX heavily emphasizes an approach of building “on what we’ve learned from previous flights” in its approach to develop Starship. The company says its strategy focuses on “recursive improvement” to the rocket, where even test flights with fiery outcomes represent progress toward its goal of a fully reusable rocket that can deliver people to the moon and Mars.

While I remain unhappy about the location of SpaceX, it was exciting to see the success. It brought back great memories from the 60's when they would pack us into the auditorium, to watch liftoffs. We are the generation who saw the many failures and even deaths of astronauts.

Few remember and ever fewer know. What made Night of the Living dead so scary is it was speculated in the film the astronauts brought something bad. In the day when the astronauts would leave the capsule, they would enter an isolation chamber which was then loaded onto the Navy ship, until they could be cleared.

We have come so far, and todays launch for me brought back the challenges of space.

The robot we just landed on the moon in already sending back data to see if there is water and if it can be made into fuel for launches to Mars. I hope I live long enough to see the first permanent manned station on the moon.

Again, I do not like the location of SpaceX. But the 100-million-dollar development being planned is going to bring in a lot of tax dollars for the county, and so many jobs.

Truckloads of construction material can be seen heading towards SpaceX every day. The demand is so massive Brownsville companies cannot keep up, so a lot of the building materials is coming from the same stores but in other locations.

I’m sure glad it didn’t rapidly disassemble when it wasn’t supposed to.

Don't blame the gringo. Blame yourselves for voting into office nothing but corrupt politicians who gave free land to one of the wealthiest men of our country. Musk did his homework and knew we were an easy target. The smartest people live off of the dumbest. Go DEMOCRATS!

I agree with some of the comments but the overwhelming majority of votes came from the racist republicans, not dems. remember all millionaires and billionaires are RATAS and got rich from the democrat programs. free money and free land and hate meskins and vote racist republicans ALWAYS is their motto.
