THE LANDOWNER IS HAPPY. SO IS BUS-METRO. BUT THE RIDERS?

(Ed.'s Note: It has ben since 20178 that Brownsville Urban System-Metro received the Outstanding Urban Transit System Award, and before that in 2012 it the Outstanding Urban Transit System Award, and since then it has been coasting on those wins to justify its over-bloated administrative staff and taxpayer funded budget through a contract with the City of Brownsville.

Yet, all that time, scenes like this – elderly bus riders using the nearby fence of a private residence to sit on, or in the case of the two elderly men, a sign to lean on while they wait for the bus in 85-plus degree weather. This "bus shelter" is across Old Port Isabel Road from the busy Wal-Mart and is always full of shoppers finding a way home. If it isn't the bus riders who are getting good service, then who is? BUS-Metro administrators get a pat in the back from the city commission and everything is well until they "win" another award in exchange for an expensive membership in a transportation group.

As gratitude for using the landowners' right-of-way, BUS-Metro placed a trash can that was chained to the sign pole so refuse won't blow into his front yard. So, everybody is happy. Right?)

It is what it is folks!! My friend says: The city commission doesn't give a fuck about most of their constituents needs. Give the elite and the hoity-toity citizens their hike/bike trails, their murals and their farmers market (no matter the cost) . Allow SpaceX ,LNG and any other agency to come in and destroy/plunder our natural resources and wildlife(as per all the reports). Give all the rich and privileged all the grants and building funds(BCIC). It's ok , the local native's have no say so , have "NO VOICE"!!!! Why fight it ??. Just turn around bite the pillow and take it up the ....... $$$$ is what matters and whose pocket it goes into !! And you know what, I may agree with my friend. So sad

Go down the street at corner and there's so much trash from Walmart in that person's yard but the homeowner of that property doesn't care about all that trash. Bus Shelters are going up as slow as the workers from the city can move? Like turtles or snails, these creatures do move but get no where! That's where Brownsville is going into the future of failure. Just got back from visiting Weslaco and that city is growing and has more businesses than Brownsville. Again Brownsville gets the leftovers from Matamoros, Tacos places because of the cartels taking down everyone in Matamoros?

Someone needs to guard the trash can.

The right of was does not belong to the adjacent lot to it, it is just that. That property owner doesn’t keep his property landscaped much less pick up the trash. City of Brownsville speed up the shelters. Enough with the sparsely used hike and bike trails, etc. fix the streets and get rid of the people using the streets as mechanic shops for unlicensed vehicles left on the streets for days especially the areas close to the college/ university. I’m talking from Jackson to Ringgold Streets from International Blvd to University Blvd. These cars eventually go to Mexico and when tagged they know they have 72 hours to work on them after being tagged. Cut the time to 24 hours and enforce it. These are 3 major items to work on. Hello COB. My opinion. Thank you Rrun Rrun.

Get this Juan. They just won another “Outstanding Urban Transit” award a few days ago. Makes one wonder if the award judges even look at the cities that are applying for the award. Or better yet, maybe it’s one of those pay to win awards like the All-America City “award”
