GARZA'S "NEW ENERGY": COUNTY'S RESIDENTS' TAXES AT WORK

When Eric Garza took over the Cameron County Sheriff's Department on January 2021, he promised to bring "new energy and vigor" to the position after the tenure of the late Omar Lucio, who his followers criticized for being an old man. It didn't take long for Garza to demonstrate what he meant. During the first year of his administration, Garza struck up a relationship with a woman and his nocturnal visits were caught on her doorbell camera. The relationship soured after disagreements arose after she announced that she was in a "family" way. 

But before that, Garza had been recorded during a nocturnal visit he made to her home on October 16, 2021. At the top photo, the couple arrived at her home at about 9:11 p.m.. In the bottom one he is seen leaving – beer bottle in hand – at about 11:30, two and one half hours later. Here's where you, dear county taxpayer, come in. When Garza emerges from the love nest, he is picked up in an unmarked county unit [paid by you] and driven by a sheriff's department administrator [you know who you are], whose salary was also paid by you.     

The woman, scorned and furious when Garza sought to distance himself from the situation, made these surveillance recordings available to her friends as well a a series of emails between them where they discussed their intimate differences. We decline to post those intimate [and tawdry] conversations here, but show how Garza turned a public trust into a funding source for his private sexual dalliances.

Today is the last day to vote early in the runoff for sheriff between Garza and challenger Manuel "Manny" Treviño. Election day is Tuesday, May 28.
