BCIC, WHICH VOTERS WANTED TO SHUT DOWN, GIVING CEO A RAISE?

Discussion under Section 551.074 of the Texas Government Code regarding personnel matters; the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation may convene in a closed session to discuss the President & CEO's employment contract.

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Despite facing mounting criticism from community members against the board of the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) for its profligate spending and questionable awarding of cash grants to friends and relatives, the board continues on its merry way.

In today's meeting to be held at 5 p.m. at the eBridge Center for Business & Commercialization, located at 1304 East Adams Street, Brownsville, the matter of CEO Cory Peña's contract will be discussed in closed session and its members will decide whether to reward the director with a nice lump of cash. Last time we looked, Peña's salary was somewhere near $100,000. How much more will her bods on the BCIC board give her now?

And also ignoring the criticism from the community regarding its board travel policy, the whole crew is jetting around the country. The request for travel for this meeting includes three, four-day  and five-day trips to Mexico, Houston, Austin and on to Denver where seven BCIC members and administrators will stay for three days in September.

When will the city stop this hemorrhaging of public funds to pamper these jet-setting members? Or won't they?

Ask for the bcic ceo salary, is public information I bet is over $100k , and wow! seven people for one event in Denver? I wonder who attend the people while they’re out? Are they actually in the building at some time or just spending public funds for their own benefit?
