500 MILES APART, BOERNE AND MATAMOROS IN WILLIAMSPORT

BOERNE, NORTH OF SAN ANTONIO (BELOW, LEFT) MATAMOROS (RIGHT) ON BRACKET

MATAMOROS LITTLE LEAGUE WILL REPRESENT MEXICO IN INTERNATIONAL BRACKET

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Boerne, Texas and Matamoros, Tamaulipas are about 500 miles apart on either side of the Rio Grande, but both are now in Williamsport, Pa., Boerne representing Texas West, on the United States Bracket and Matamoros representing Mexico on the International Bracket.

Making its last trip to Williamsport in 2022 where it finished with a 2-2 record, Matamoros Little League will return to the biggest stage in youth sports for the seventh time in the league’s history to make the country’s 36th appearance since 1957, second most among international teams only behind Canada.

Matamoros Little League had its best finish in the 2008 LLBWS, winning five straight games on the way to a runner-up finish in the championship game.

Mexico’s illustrious past in the LLBWS goes back to the country’s first World Series in 1957, where Industrial Little League (Monterrey) became the first international team to win the LLBWS with Angel Macias throwing the only perfect game ever in a championship game.

Mexico will open the tournament against the Caribbean Region in Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday, August 14, at noon. in Volunteer Stadium.

BOERNE IS ONE OF 20 U.S. TEAMS IN THE LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES

Boerne opens play Thursday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m.
Unlike Matamoros, this is the first time a Boerne Little League Majors All-Star team has advanced this far.

Boerne defeated Louisiana Tuesday in the regional round to clinch a spot in the 20-team Little League World Series that starts Aug. 14 and continues through Aug. 25.

Just imagine ALL the Money Arturo Trevinio made by collecting Donations to help the kids? Those kids received new shoe laces worth $20,000 US Dollars. Shoe Laces cost $50.00 pesos and the rest of the $19,950.00 was for logistics and administrative fees. Of course Pedro Cardenas received $5,000.00 for his Golf Tournament from Los Trevi.
