UPON HEARING THAT BISD IS NAMING FIELD AFTER "COACH" JOE

Citizens of Brownsville

It was my honor and of great personal satisfaction to have had the opportunity to amass a tidy personal benefit at the expense of the taxpayers of the Brownsville Independent school district after 19 years as a board trustee, and later as a athletic director pushing my sports-equipment brands.

I am honored to have had the Sams Stadium field named after me. I will have the satisfaction of lying under the artificial turf (which we steered to Paragon, my buddies), and the electronic $1.4 million scoreboard which was first going to cost $650,000, but which I managed to inflate to almost $1.5 million with the help of my fellow board members – who also managed to horse trade for their pet projects – especially Dr. Sylvia Atkinson, who by now should be out of the clink.

I want to thank all my cronies and sycophants for the opportunity to serve you as a mediocre coach for 17 years who never won a state football title (We came close against Seguin, losing by only 47-14,  B'Gawd!) and as athletic director for 27 after I resigned from the board and my pals appointed me to that position.

From there, I amassed great personal influence which later helped to make me a successful vendor with BSN Sports. I was blessed with coaching young men who followed me blindly. It is they who deserve the accolades, not me. Aw, shucks, stop it! Stop it!

From this perch, I will cherish the memories that I was able to strong-arm coaches and other administrators to shop my expensive sports-equipment and who continued to do so after the voters  rejected my candidacy for another four years as trustee.

Man, I will miss the ability to move coaches around and hire my buddies. "Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention..."

Finally, I congratulate the winners of the recent elections and the candidates for the next one, and pray that, unlike me, that they keep their promises to the citizens for our community. Old vendors, it is said, never die, they just get off the spotlight and make their cash in the background. Lookee here at the cash I was making (in commissions) from my beloved BISD. Do you think I was going to let that bone go after I was no longer with the district?

Joe was my coach never learned anything from him. A vendor who I knew well from McAllen solid athletic equipment to Bisd through Joe and said the following: for every transaction he would ask me for money under the table this man was the biggest crook I ever met. And played favorites as a coach… he shitted on his wife many times over. He got kick off the board for doing something illegal… and they honor him as such… and there’s a lot more

Yes, Juan, yes yes yes. Thank you for telling the truth.

He hurt a lot of people and was arrogant as they come… a larger than live BS’er

A corrupt individual who made millions from B.I.S.D. Lucky for him he was never investigated if not he would have been jailed. The taxpayers made him wealthy. The people of Brownsville should speak up and voice their opinion to let the current name stand. No need to change the name. Should the name change go through all school board members should be voted out. The school board members are part of the problem with our local educational system.

Juan ok so now everyone knows the rest of the story, i always thought this guy was as crooked as a mesquite tree. Puro cool arrow, chuy y chon

My buddy says : Leave it to BISD board members and other “influential “ idiots to even consider HONORING this crook. How can anyone in their right mind name anything after someone who only served himself and his pocket. And thats only the tip of iceberg when it comes to this man’s dishonest, corrupt and immoral behavior. Go ahead and name the stadium after him and then the BISD will have the perfect trifecta of :EDDIE LUCIO MIDDLE SCHOOL, GALLEGOS ELEMENTARY and finally JOE RODRIGUEZ MEMORIAL STADIUM, showcasing their knack for supporting/ condoning corruption . Way to go BISD, way to set a good example for the kids !!

It takes guts to write the real story about Joe … thank you Juan for writing the real story behind Joe “the rat” Rodriguez.. the whole Rodriguez family left Edinburg in shame

Well said. Anything else is just frosting on his grave.

The school board should disqualify itself from voting on whether to rename the field after "Coach" Joe. Some board members still owe him favors, but he's dead, and nobody cares anymore. Let this stupidy GO.

Juan loos like TCI -Te Chingo INC., not bad $2.4-$2.6 million better than selling Coors beer. just saying, Henry

Nothing should be named after this SOB. He is the reason many board members in BISD thin they can steal. I hope this his soul is chained in hell.

if ever there was an idiota to be hated this is the ONE!!! FACT

Back in 1968 I tried out for Brownsville high school baseball team. The coach was Leo Garza who worked under Joe Rod. After having played since little league I had the skills and baseball was in my blood. To my disappointment, my name and other good players did not appear on the roster. I felt that joe rod had part in not choosing myself and the others. That showed me that Joe Rod had control of who would make the cut. To this day I feel that what happened was unfair to me and the other players who loved the sport and would have proven him wrong. Renaming Sam's stadium after him is terribly wrong.

Nothing should be named after this crook !! Wait a minute, i take that back, maybe they should name a toilet stall after him so we can take a dump whenever we feel like it, like he took a dump on all the tax payers all those years. Its called Turd justice.

Wow! 1968! He was already screwing the students!

Naming a urinal at the stadium would have been more appropriate… so every one could piss on him

Anonymous said...

No, los que deciden son los del board. Estamos perdidos. No hacen caso al pueblo porque no tenemos poder. Nos jodieron otra vez.

Anonymous said...

How could they do such a dishonorable thing… like naming a field in his honor . Shameful, shameful and damn shameful

Anonymous said...

Juan does the name Sam's Stadium mean that the Sam's Foundation gave the land to build this? If that is true why change the name por un Mamon, is this something the current BISD Board is pushing? really? El Chucky.

Anonymous said...

Sam foundation never gave Bisd permission to name the field after this flunky… field is on Sam’s foundation property it was done with authorization from the foundation… Sam in turning in his grave

Anonymous said...

To name anything after Rata Joe Rodriguez is an insult to the Brownsville taxpayers. Let the thief be forgotten.

Anonymous said...

He left his footprints Infected with evil … his name along with the Sam’s foundation is now tinted with dirt

Anonymous said...

Sams stadium is one of more historical places in the city and now with Joe’s name added to it … it’s legacy will forever remain in a state of shame

Anonymous said...

If BISD BOARD MEMBERS VOTE TO CHANGE THE NAME THEN THEY ARE DEFINITELY A BUNCH OF PENDEJOS. ANY OF THEM TO VOTE YES MUST AND WILL THERE LAST STINT IN POLITICS .

Anonymous said...

Damn how could they!

They are not pendejos. They are only out for themselves.
