ERIN GAMEZ EATS CAMERON COUNTY D.A.'S OFFICE'S LUNCH...AGAIN

By Mia Morales and Janelle Tanguma

HARLINGEN, Texas (Valley Central) — The capital murder trial of Salomon Campos Jr. lasted three weeks but it took the jury less than two hours to find him not guilty of killing his well-known uncle, Ernesto “El Gallito” Gonzales.

Campos was accused of kidnapping and murdering his uncle.

On Friday, Oct. 11 the state rested its case after bringing in three witnesses, including two expert witnesses, to testify.

On Monday, the defense rested its case and called Rose Covarrubios, Gonzales’s ex-wife, a former Texas Ranger investigator, and two expert witnesses, to the stand.

Tuesday morning the courtroom was full as several of Gonzales’ and Campos’ family members as they listened to the closing arguments.

At 9 a.m., the prosecutions began their closing argument, during which the lead prosecutor reminded the jury that this trial was not against the Harlingen Police Department.

Throughout the trial, the Harlingen Police Department was at the center of attention as testimony focused on the department losing evidence during the investigation.

The lead prosecutor later shifted the focus to Campos, stating there was evidence Campos was following his uncle, “El Gallito.” He told the jury before ending his closing argument that the evidence will prove Campos was involved “clear as day.”

During the defense’s closing arguments, they stated that the burden of proof fell on the prosecution and they failed to provide enough evidence that Campos committed the murder.

Campos’ attorney Erin Gamez said it was an injustice that law enforcement failed to provide all the evidence. During her closing argument, Gamez told the jury that there were dozens of people with motive and opportunity but law enforcement failed to investigate anyone besides Campos.

The only other person besides her dad that has consistently beat the shit out of Luis Saenz is Nat Perez. Now his kid is working with him and he’s gonna beat his ass too. Juan get a list of how many times these lawyers have won big cases against Luis Saenz and post them. I’m sure he has lost more than half of his cases against these lawyers.

What do you expect from Luis Saenz. He’s one of the last dinosaurs left on the endangered list of county officials. He’s next to go. My gardener says: Must be a great gig to kick back and go after only the borrachitos( except his relatives) in town. He seems to lose all the big cases. Hey Luis , Erin just bitch slapped that ugly mustache right off your ugly mug. LOL

They have a team that does all the work for the lawyers. Look up rules, prior cases, background of all people involved, gossip with the family, neighbors, reporters, secretaries etc

El gallito disappeared in 2017 after a dispute with his family. His body was found in 2020 in a property of Campos, his nephew. His son was also a suspect. Nobody is talking and now nobody will know who killed El gallito. El gallito was a nickname given to him by Judge Hester. El gallito was a fighter. When he found out that his sister was not taking care of the mother but was collecting a check from the State of Texas for caring for the mom, El gallito fought his family. He forgot that his sister had sons and the sons were fighters like him. The family killed El gallito. The mother passed away after seeing all her children fighting over her care. The mother never knew what was done to her son by her own family.

Not surprising, I saw this coming just from reading the story. I just want to know when is Chief Michael Kester going to discipline officers for not doing their job? The administration is sure not doing their job in supervising? Investigator Vega is a joke and needs to go back to kindergarten. I would say that he is only good at being a jailer and that's pushing it. I hear that he is the investigator on that girl from the McDonald's that went missing and then they found her body? He'll fucked that up if an arrest is made! I question why the Cameron County District Attorney even took the case, if it was fucked up? No doubt, there are family members involved in this and they will walk "scot-free" because of this shoddy lazy investigation. Why didn't Luis Saenz try the case himself? That convicted felon Armando Villalobos would have tried it and probably would have gotten a conviction? LOL!!!
