The Cameron County Auditor's staff is currently at the Sheriff's Department and have been there since last week conducting an audit into purchases made by Sheriff Eric Garza's administration using commissary monies – well over $500,000, it is reported.
Items the department purchased were trucks, body cameras and in-car police cameras bought with commissary funding, questionable acquisitions if you consider what the funds are for.
None of this equipment is being used to the benefit of the Cameron County Jail inmates.
Commissary money has to be used strictly for the sole purpose of providing a benefit to the inmates. Misuse of this funding is illegal and could be considered misuse of County monies and property under Abuse of Official Capacity and Securing the Execution of a Document by Deception.

If the report is accurate, then this “transaction” was ilegal and hence appropriate measures should be taken. Also ( if this information is true) It seems like Eric Garza keeps finding ways to keep sinking the Sheriff’s dept. Into more chaos and ineptitude. He’s on his last days of office, maybe commissioner’s court should consider keeping him on a short leash to avoid such incompetence to continue. I would also take away Sheriff Fife’s “one bullet” to avoid any further mishaps. LOL

Is DA Luis Saenz going to do anything about this? Nope, perhaps its best to bring in the Feds? Not sure why so late in the game Erica now wants cameras? Sour grapes.
All the purchases benefit the inmates: trucks: transportation
body cameras: to record inmates when being transported, detained, in car police cameras: recording of inmates and their craziness, when they refuse to follow instructions from the officers, when they spit at the police officers, when they accuse them of beating them up etc So, maybe they have to buy linen, toilet paper, tooth brushes etc that are safe to be used by all inmates etc
Like always the jail is in worse conditions example it rain and leaks water all over the jail lt lazo and lt mejia have to run with trashcans to put under the leaks also jail division transport old units with engine problems and commander Mendieta aka menso putting tint on his office window so no one could see inside went his alone with the clerk and lt felipe olivares using jail unit to go to cameron park to buy tortillas and queso at 1 am.

Nobody talking about the auditors office and why over 5 resignations in the last 8 weeks? Not counting the 15+ before that? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
