A Cameron County deputy constable was killed in a Monday evening crash.

Cameron County Judge Eddie TreviƱo Jr. posted on social media that Cameron County Precinct 1 Deputy Constable Ruben Garcia died in a vehicular accident.

Other officials such as Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz confirmed the death of Garcia.

Sergeant Maria Hernandez with Texas DPS said around 7 p.m. the two-vehicle fatal crash occurred Monday on State Highway 48 near Marine Way Road (Keppel AmFELS), in Brownsville.

The department’s investigation showed a Cameron County Precinct 1 patrol unit was parked on State Highway 48 occupied by Constable Garcia.

Garcia was in the patrol unit about to leave after assisting DPS with another crash scene at the location, according to the news release.

At that moment a white Chevrolet Silverado, occupied only by the driver, rear-ended the patrol unit.

Garcia sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital in Brownville, where he died from his injuries.

In front of Milwhite this morning there was another major accident involving an 18 wheeler. The entire area is a mess. 4 Corners the truckers block the east bound side for Boca Chica and people heading east bound cannot get through after several lights because the 18 wheelers are blocking the intersection. The Brownsville PD will not help until someone is killed. how long have we been promised the East Loop for the truckers. Now it is a mess.

Now watch the so and ccsda scramble and make themselves look good during this hard time. But for Garza politics they don't need no meetings or votes not even for a past long serving employee with the so. Shame on yall that other agencies do more for someone who never worked for them than the so once again pathetic leadership at its best.

Drive with caution. Take your time to get to your place of work. Avoid the area, unless you have to go there.
