ST. CHARLES ST. (HARRY MCNAIR) PARK PLAYGROUND TORCHED

(Ed.'s Note: So what's going on with the vandalism that destroyed the playground equipment at the St. Charles Street (now Harry McNair) Park that was a popular community green and recreation space in the East Brownsville neighborhood?

It's been a week now that the playground equipment was torched and so far, nothing has been forthcoming from the city administration or commission. The park lies in city commissioner Pedro Cardenas' District 4. This morning, city workers were picking up the charred remains of the playground equipment and hauling it off in trailers.

Some commissioners said city administration had not told them of the arson of the neighborhood  public park and had no idea that had happened

When this 1-acre park opened in 2000, the city claimed it was known as one of the most attractive inner-city parks in the US and featured a playground, a mini-waterfall landscaped with tropical foliage, two basketball courts, and several picnic tables with BBQ grills.

It was hailed as a successful Urban Renewal Project constructed on a property that housed a condemned apartment complex. Originally named St. Charles Park, the site was renamed Harry E. McNair Park in 2006. McNair, a meganarcissist, was also responsible for renaming historic El Fronton Street after this family, much to the displeasure of the local residents, a majority of whom signed a petition for the street to keep its historic name.

Even if it was bad karma, why destroy children's playground equipment? Is this why we can't have good things?)

Get rid of all parks. They are just a waste of tax payer dollars in the construction and later the continuous upkeep. Privatize. Have the private sector open and maintain these parks.

They need to rename it. McNair family are bunch of narcissistic who continue to change, streets and parks under the family name. Harry McNair is a disgusting being who doesn't deserve a park named after him. Who approved that????
