BROWNSVILLE LEADS ON SALES TAX REVENUE INCREASE (*FOR LOWER VALLEY CITIES) IN THE LAST 11 MONTHS

Brownsville leads the way with $53.6 million worth of sales tax revenues, followed by Harlingen with $30.9 million, and San Benito at $6.6 million.

Looking at the cities in Willacy County, Raymondville led the way with $1.5 million.

In terms of percentage growth, year-on-year, Port Isabel’s sales tax revenues have grown by a staggering 19.41 percent.

from Rio Grande Guardian: Looking at the cities in Hidalgo County, McAllen leads the way with $86.0 million worth of sales tax revenues, followed by Edinburg with $34.8 million, and Pharr with $27.3 million. Mission came in next at $25.4 million, followed by Weslaco at $18.9 million. Mercedes came in at $8.0 million, Donna at $6.9 million, and San Juan at $6.1 million

I checked. McAllen is in the 80s millions in sales tax revenue, almost twice as much as Brownsville. Just to fill the reporting canvas offered here by a provincialist blogger.

*Lower Valley is right! Brownsville leads whole Valley in crime, however. By a large margin. Even ambulances get stolen in Brownsville!!!

The perception is that people in Brownsville sit around waiting for their government check (Social Security too) and food stamps while people in McAllen HAVE money.

The real news is Brownsville, considering its population size, does not come close to doubling Harlingen's sales tax revenue. Blame Mayor John Cowen!
