Mini-Biography by Alex De LeonSinger-songwriter, pianist, arranger and producer, Grammy nominee Jose Cantoral Zucchi has been named Mr. Amigo 2025 by the Mr. Amigo Association of Brownsville.
The association will make the announcement at 10 a.m. at the Texas Southmost College ITEC Building.
The traditional Mr. Amigo announcement is part of the celebration of Brownsville’s relationship with Matamoros. The two communities celebrate Charro Days, an annual fiesta celebrated in Brownsville, in late February.
Born in Mexico City. His song José Pérez León, popularized by Los Tigres del Norte, was awarded Song of the Year and nominated for Best Regional Mexican Song at the Latin Grammy Awards. Among his recordings as a singer-songwriter stands out La Musa, Llévame, Quiéreme y verás, and Te seguiría buscando.
As a singer, he has performed duets with Los Baby's, Lucero, Lorenzo Méndez, and Rayito Colombiano. Throughout his career, he has composed for film and television. "El Corrido de Miguel", performed by Bronco, was co-authored with Mónica Vélez, and included in the soundtrack of the Oscar-winning Film "Coco", produced by Disney Pixar.
He has written music for soap operas such as Lazos de amor performed by Lucero, El precio de tu amor, La mexicana y el güero, Mi fortuna es amarte, Mi camino es amarte and Golpe de suerte. He is also the composer and producer of the theme song for the reality show "El Retador".
The anthems of the Mexico City and intelligence police are of his authorship. He recently produced, "Regálame esta noche, at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, a symphonic tribute to maestro Roberto Cantoral, with the participation of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería, Enrique Patrón de Rueda and singers Fernando de la Mora, Eugenia León and Javier Camarena, the latter awarded as Male

Its objective is to dynamically and intuitively bring children closer to the arts.
He currently produces, directs, and shares the stage with Itatí Cantoral, his sister, in the tour "Noche no te vayas", a tribute that tells the stories of his father's creations, hits that have toured the world.

When they did the separate ceremony, it was a small gathering. Few people went. Hopefully, the Mr. Amigo Association invites this composer to the parades and other events. Do a concert and his father's songs. That will be a great fundraiser. There is a doctor here in Brownsville that likes to sponsor these concerts.
