A Texas mother is seeking answers after her 11-year-old daughter took her own life following relentless bullying about her family’s immigration status. The child, Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, was a sixth-grade student at Gainesville Intermediate School.
Her mother, Marbella Carranza, shared that Jocelynn was repeatedly harassed by classmates, who taunted her and threatened to call ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to deport her family. The bullying was so severe that Jocelynn reportedly reported it to school authorities multiple times—yet no action was taken. Marbella added that she was not informed about the bullying until, after her daughter’s death.

“I waited a whole week for a miracle that my daughter would be well, but unfortunately nothing could be done,” the grieving mother said. “My daughter will always live for me, and I will always love her.”
On February 3, after enduring months of bullying, Jocelynn made the devastating decision to end her life. She was rushed to an intensive care unit in Dallas, where she remained for five days before passing away on February 8, according to the family’s GoFundMe page.
“This helplessness hurts my soul and it is not easy for me or for any of her relatives who were present in her life as a child and knowing that she is no longer with us breaks my heart into pieces,” her father Ernesto Alonso Rojo said in a series of updates to the fundraiser after his daughter passed away. “Although my heart and my soul are dying, at this moment I have to continue for myself and my other little cherubs.”
The girl’s death came after months of relentless taunting by her sixth-grade classmates at Gainesville Intermediate School, a fifth and sixth-grade school located some 70 miles north of Dallas, according to comments her mother, Marbella Carranza, made to Univision .
The bullying was due to the girl’s Hispanic ethnicity – culminating with threats from other students that they would call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on her parents, her mother told the network. By the end of her life, Jocelynn attended counseling between once and twice per week due to the bullying, according to her mother.
During the bullying episodes, other students made fun of the girl by saying that she would have to live alone after her parents were deported, her mother added.
The Gainesville ISD has yet to release a statement regarding Jocelynn’s death as her family seeks answers. Jocelynn Carranza Rojo’s tragic story highlights the real dangers of bullying and the fear immigrant families face daily. Her death has sparked a national conversation about how schools handle bullying –especially when it involves racial or immigration-related harassment.

So who are you blaming? The deportation of illegal immigrants, the school district or the parents. I personally don't see the deportation of illegal immigrants having anything to do with this issue. I blame the school district for not taking steps against the bullying that is if it really occurred. I also blame the Mexican parents who are never involved with their kids lives. Stop the whining and quit blaming everything on the republican administration.

Yes, please stop blaming the wrong people. so much blame to go around. But republican administration Please.
Gainsville ISD is responsible in this child's death, to a percentage and a good percentage! They were told about the bullying but obviously did nothing about it? The parents of the bully's are responsible and to a percentage! Children are cruel but they can be taught not to be cruel? Parents have a job and that is to teach your children to respect others, no matter what! This has nothing to do with the current administrations stance on illegal immigration, even though the democrats will look to blame someone else? Bottom line, had the school district taken some kind of action, this might have occurred? I bet the school district will now say that they will have someone to counsel the children because of this incident? Why not discipline the children to prevent something like this in the future, whether the parenst like it or not!
May God damn Gainesville, Tezas.
COLLATERAL DAMAGE...Que Sera Sera...
I am 60 years old. What I learned from my parents is that once you have a child you need to think what effects your actions will have on your family. My father used to work at night and my mother during the day. With their work schedule setup this way there was always adult supervision at home.
Apparently my comments hit the target. You’re probably one of those parents whose not involved with his kid(s) lives. You receive food stamps and survive on welfare checks. Now you’re looking for a federal program to raise your kids. Go back to school because if you need to use profanity to make a statement you lack education.
rip little one, you are in heaven now you can rest in peace this really hurts...
Weak genetics Juan. Can’t taint the Chicano gene pool.
You have a point. Schools is where one learns about others. You learn about sports and athletes, about cheerleaders, about academics and honors and about yourself and your family. Schools are strict: they check your clothes, your technology, your backpacks, if you eat or not eat during lunch, and the staff and the administrators are everywhere: halls, restrooms, gym, buses, etc , Trump is going to make a big change in education.
