If you are a Brownsville resident, you'd half expect that the fatal stabbing of the young father pictured with his wife and toddler above would have happened in a cantina de mala muerte on 14th Street or in some seedy bar downtown.
It wasn't that long ago that video on social media showed a man being kicked in the head as he lay unconscious on the ground in front of the bar. Police made arrests in that assault case.
But so far, the Brownsville Police Department has announced no arrests in the stabbing death of 23-year-old Gerardo Gonzalez who died after an unknown assailant stabbed him outside the funeral home, according to a Facebook post from the BPD.
At around 2:16 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to reports of the stabbing at the parking lot of Sunset Funeral Home which is located in the 600 block of Springmart Boulevard, across the street from the Dive Bar.
According to police, the victim had already been transported to the hospital before their arrival. The Dive Bar was never mentioned in the report.
Gonzalez later died from his injuries.
And it wasn't that long ago that police made a bust in another bar on the west side of the expressway where the bar owners permitted the party to go on until the wee morning hours way past the 2 a.m. required closing time. They confiscated drugs, weapons and arrested some partygoers. The bar was apparently transformed into an after-hours party place for some favored patrons.
No arrests have been made at this time in the young father's homicide, but investigators are working on gathering information.
They ask the public to reach out to the Brownsville Police Department at (956) 548-7000 if anyone has information regarding the fatal stabbing.

Compared to the activities going on in these "upscale" bars, 14th Street and downtown cantinas are looking safer and safer.

Something tells me this vato flacucho had a big mouth. Just saying.
It's sad, but nothing good comes out of those north side bars always on the news with gun shots, stabbings, fights, people getting runned over, drugs, theft, etc. RIP
Yes, there should be a rule at bars. No married man allowed. No married man with children allowed. No single man allowed unless you are chiflado.
Men have man caves at home. WIves buy their husband the beers they like. There is a solution for every problem men have. Imagine that: a cave to have your fun and the wife close by in case you need something.
WTF was he doing there. He should have been home helping his vieja with the toddler. He was married but single. Remember most of the time you find what you are looking for and then some.
Regardless of what time it was
Or where this man was or wasn't
A crime occurred and
A killer is in the loose
Come on people !
Do your part to catch him or shut up
