JURY SENTENCES DRIVER WHO KILLED DEPUTY CONSTABLE TO 35 YEARS

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — Jesse Edward Leatherwood, the driver accused of crashing into a Cameron County Constable unit and killing Precinct 1 Constable Ruben Garcia, was sentenced to 35 years in prison by a jury late Monday.

The fatal crash took place before 6:45 p.m. Sept. 30, 2024 on State Highway 48 near Marine Way Road in Brownsville.
