TODAY LAST DAY TO VOTE EARLY "FOR" VENUE VOTE

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Cameron County, the City of Brownsville – and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) – are publicly supporting a ballot proposition (A) that would allow the use of hotel occupancy tax revenues to help build a 10,000-seat, mixed-use arena in Cameron County.

The Brownsville City Commission on March 4 approved a resolution proclaiming the proposed arena a “quality-of-life project and a catalyst for economic development for the region.” The resolution noted that the county could use revenue from a sports and community-venue tax (approved by voters in 2016) already being collected by the county in combination with public-private partnerships to get the arena built.

“While there are venues that allow for live music and athletic events in the Rio Grande Valley, there are currently no venues that accommodate large music and athletic events, graduation ceremonies, or other cultural or theater events in Cameron County,” according to the resolution.

Supporters say the financing of the venue center will not increase property taxes for county residents.

Early voting started Tuesday and runs through next Tuesday, April 29. Election day is May 3.

BS ! Once they can't fund their project with the hotel and occupancy tax revenues they will hit the tax payer. This is a common trend. There should be better use for these funds like streets and drainage issues.

We need to vote out the incumbents and all of the buddies that they have that they are running as well. Barraza Is not good news because she is a city employee. That means she is sucking on the teat that is the city. Now she wants to have more control and get paid. Plus I'm sure she wants that Elon Musk money too. Most people do and will sell all of us down the river to get it. Question I have is where are they going to go after book that you could be just polluted and all of the pelicans are dead. That's something for you all to think about! Do not vote for any of the incumbents!! Do not vote for any of their replacements either!

Rrun Rrun, please publish a list of every corrupt local official who supports funding for the arena. Obviously Eddie the midget and John Coward.

The politicians have already sold us down the river, too late for not voting for them. They sold their soul to the devil already. But they will also have to live with their crappy decisions.

John Cowen, is friends with all of them so he has put his friends FIRST and Brownsville SECOND. I can not believe it.
All of them: Cowen, Trevino, UTRGV president are sticking together because they are the same. Let them use their own money. The City has money, the University has money, Trevino has money.
