Lazo worked with the county for 14 years.
Cameron County Sheriff Manuel Trevino reported that earlier this month, eight inmates started a riot and fire at the Old County Jail on Harrison Street in Brownsville.
As previously reported by Valley Central, authorities reported smoke was coming out of the building, prompting the evacuation on May 22.
The inmates were transported to the hospital and returned to the jail. The eight inmates involved in the riot have been charged with arson and destroying county property.
Lazo’s bond has been set at $90,000.

On another note yes sheriff Trevino needs to visit the jail more. That's what erica lacked in. Sheriff i ha e been a jailer for about 15 years and we as jailers feel that a Sheriff needs to visit us and not take us for granted. Make things right because soon enough you will be up for reelection. Show us that us jailers are important. We work 12 hours a day and put up with hard core criminals like the ones that caused the arson. Help us help you. Please dont let me regret my vote for you. Signed a concern jailer.
