Sources close to the family said he died in Corpus Christi. The 1980 redistricting after the 2020 Census redrew the boundaries to exclude the Rio Grande Valley.
He succeeded Solomon Ortiz to the position and was succeeded after the redistricting by Michael Cloud, of Victoria.
