Q: The farmers are complaining that they cannot get American workers to work their crops. Do you think American workers are going to swelter and work for pennies?

I own a farm in Florida and I have tried many times to hire the local “ Florida good ol' boys” to cut sugarcane. Regardless of how much you pay them, they typically walk off the job at lunch time, if not earlier. I have never had one last through a full day of cutting sugarcane in the blazing Florida sun. Even if the pay was $300 a day they would not do it, as it is brutally hard, miserable work.
Yet, I can hire a Guatemalan family that will do the job, and are not only happy to do it, but do their work with great pride and efficiency. They show up early and work as long as I want them to , and are paid well for their efforts. Don't think they are poor or being exploited as they all live in nice apartments and houses, drive very nice trucks, and send their kids to college or trade schools, to allow them better lives. I have helped several of them get green cards or citizenship, as they are by far the best workers for the job!
The local “ good ol' boys” usually come with tons of baggage, like court ordered wage garnishment, weekend jail, “work only” driver licenses, various substance problems, unreliable transportation and a string of crazy ex-wives/ baby-mommy's. Then they spend most of the morning bitcthing about how hard the work is, before walking off the job at lunch. I gave up trying to hire them years ago, its just a waste of time, as they all seem to think they should be a boss or foreman, with no skills or training, and zero work ethic.
I'm glad my guys are all legal, as many neighboring farms are royally screwed with the lack of workers, thanks to all the ICE raids etc. I will get my crop out this year and pay my bills and bank some profit, my neighbors will mostly be bankrupt or selling out to real estate developers, if this keeps up much longer. Should be a good few years for me, if it keeps going like this, as sugar may hit $10/ pound! Cha-Ching!

This guy just wants to make money without investing. He could easily invest between $45,000 to $100,000 for a sugar cane harvesting machine. These machines are designed to efficiently cut and collect the cane. This mechanization significantly increases the volume of cane harvested compared to manual methods. This cheap ass needs to get out of the business and let the big boys do the job. Manual labor will soon be a thing of the past. AI is the future.
Sad that now there are a lot of unskilled people in the USA. Though it is good that AI is productive it is still sad.
Trump is trying to fix the American people: stay away from drugs, avoid issues with family, etc HOW? By paying good salaries to men. Men with money: buy a home, get married, support the wife and kids and raise good Americans. Go Trump. American men: do the right thing and help America be great.
Sounds to me like they’re plotting to prove it to themselves (the farmers)

Notice how they try to make it sound like both ends are being benefited.
Far right narrative
Lot of negroes in the south to do that kind of work.
This is the type of businessman that needs to be incarcerated in Alligator Alcatraz for exploited unskilled workers and fomenting illegal immigration for his greed.
If he really did pay $300/day to those "Good 'ole Boys" guarantee show up to work. $300/day for 12 hours= $25/hr. The reason convicts re-offend nobody gives them a shot at a fair living.
Now the real reason why Americans don't work farming and ranching is cos of farm owners like this guy lobbyied the Federal Government from not paying overtime to agricultural workers. Florida don't have overtime for farming so these Guatemalan illegals & "Good 'ole Boys" are screwed. So, Yea as American if I work more than my workweek, than Hell Yea I'm expecting Overtime.
Montoya, why don't You investigate that instead of giving goons like these a platform.
Let's also not forget this "businessman" has Federal subsidies for any losses and price protection. So stop being a little jew and invest in your business or let the market swallow You up. Don't come here telling a sad tale with the world smallest violin.
The economically deprived woman has always had to work.
However, your comment no longer fits the social and economic narrative. Even Melania Trump works.
Easy
Have more kids and nieces and nephews and show them to work the business from the ground up
We do it ALL the time in farms and ranches in Mexico and even in the USA as restaurant owners.
