Special to El Rrun-Rrun
I am very proud to be a product of the BISD school system. I enjoyed attending our schools and supporting my children at school events when they attended school at BISD.
However, 45 district facilities are in desperate need of improvements and maintenance.
Many of BISD's schools are between 50-100 years old and need facility and infrastructure upgrades for basic operation such as air conditioning units.
Many of BISD's schools are between 50-100 years old and need facility and infrastructure upgrades for basic operation such as air conditioning units.
BISD also has a need for a new Career and Technical Education Center to keep programs moving forward. I also support a new performing arts center for our growing community that will be the largest in the Rio Grande Valley.
While previous elections have addressed growth with new schools, this election is to invest in what we already have. The District has done a good job at retiring most of its old bonded debt and has the capacity to finance new debt through the voter approved bond election on November 4.
Students perform better in newer and/or recently renovated buildings with proper air conditioning and heating systems. Our children deserve access to nice classrooms, no matter where they live.
Join me in voting for Proposition 1 and 2 on November 4.

Yes, support tomorrow's Whataburger employees!
Brownsville/Matamoros ISD...GET RID of the ILLEGAL ALIEN population from our schools and you won’t need any money to operate this learning institution. We don’t owe any Mexican from Matamoros A FUCKING THING!
Should the school district seek additional funding, it may be prudent to first address potential inefficiencies and the high salaries of certain senior administrators. I am not inclined to support any measures that would result in an increase in property taxes, as many residents are already facing financial challenges. It is essential for school administrators, similar to those in municipal and county roles, to optimize resources and operate more efficiently. I encourage you to consider voting against any proposed tax increases this November to emphasize the importance of fiscal responsibility and accountability.
I am a proud product of BISD too. I support all things BISD when it comes to the students and schools.
However, I don't support BISD thievery or sexual abuse of students.
No! They need to learn to spend money wisley, instead of just blowing it on stupid things like the million dollar scoreboard and renovations that Sam's Stadium did not need among other things.
All this unnecessary 30 year tax burden with no raises for teachers or staff.
To borrow $450 M
At 6% for 30 years
Total to be paid thru 2056
$ 971,271,851.00
Monthly payment
$ 2,697,997.33
Total interest
$ 521,271,850.75
The only raises, 27 M to 45 M is for engineers. No raises for teachers.
What BISD needs is year round schooling to catch up with the rest of the country. Teachers get raises and they complain there’s no funds for supplies. Kids are graduating unable to write a decent essay but the raises keep coming. Year round school is the only answer.
They deserve dress codes that don’t allow pajamas and no cell phones during class so they can learn if they’re lucky enough to have a teacher that cares and isn’t working for summers off! Why aren’t teachers and administrators and coaches drug tested randomly? Hmmm, schools scared to?
Drop football and save millions. Brownsville kids can't compete with bigger schools.
What's our district's football budget, Juan???
I spoke with a 19 year old Whataburger employee. The young lady looked worn out and tired.I was encouraging her to go to college. I have a 19 year old son who is going to college.
Her response to my encouragement was, "I can't. I have to help my parents with the rent." Don't knock BISD when it is the parental culture.
Absolutely voting no. Total mismanagement. I do not trust anything having to do with BISD.
The parents should make sure that their children are properly dressed.
As far as the drug testing is concerned I know for a fact that the teachers aren't the problem. It is the administration in the main office. Think Dora and Frank Sauceda. May he RIP.
Millions!!! For what? To get our asses kicked every damned year in the playoffs???
10:27 AM The Rio Grande Delta region would give up academics for football. They would sacrifice a child’s intellectual sophistication in exchange for football.
So, the crooked BISD school board want more money for improvements? So, who from the connects through the board will the contract go to and who'll gain from it? BISD board members are so crooked, that they don't even hide it? The problem is that you dumb ass voters keep putting these crooks into office? Bad enough, you vote a pedophile lover and a former DPS officer on the board? That was a mistake, for sure! Then vote in others with very questionable motives? Even if you don't vote for this bond, these crooks will find a way to make you taxpayers pay for it?
Borrow $ 460 Million
Interest $ 532 Million
TOTAL TAX BURDEN $992 Million
Carlos Elizondo is a rat!
Sell excess BISD properties now while the market is high. Pay off the bonds we already have. Cut high dollar staff. Make kids bring their own lunch.
BISD has a lot of abandoned properties. They need to sell those to use the money to fix the schools they have. Make BISD Great. Also, the schools need to implement programs where the community goes to help clean the schools. Clean the windows, fix the roofs, cut the tree branches, clean the floors, walls, restrooms. Yes, the graduates of BISD and all the people of Brownsville will go and clean and fix the schools We have plumbers, painters, air conditioner technicians, professional clearners etc
Those are American students that live in Matamoros and other cities. Have some respect for your fellow Americans. They do not have visas, nor green cards, they have American citizenship.
Correct. BISD needs a budget. This is not a time to spend and spend. Time for adminstrators, staff and students to show how much they care for BISD.
Parents have to check the kiddos are doing their homework. They also need to study with the kiddos. No excuses. Parents: put your kids to learn and work on their assignments. The kid doesn't know how to spell: the mom was on the phone. The kid is lazy: he is watching the parents.
Brownsville kids are not built to play American Football 🏈. However, they can definitely play futbol.
"All this unnecessary 30 year tax burden with no raises for teachers or staff."
Agree, WTF is going on with admins scoring 200 or 300+ thousand dollars a year salaries off our taxes? T There needs to be in place a tier where raises are distributed equally. Beginning with the teachers, and if there is anything left over, then to the higher admins. This is easy to do in a spreadsheet with formulas. Come on BISD, people are having less kids, average people can't even afford to have kids anymore, you can at least pay the teachers first.
Do an audit and equalize the salaries before you raise anyone's taxes. Too many leeches at the top who aren't even needed, whose salaries could be spread out across those actually doing the real day to day work of educating kids.
Did you vote against theTRE some years back? Voters approved the scoreboard. The football field got astroturf also. Why a new field? And to top it off, we now call it the Joe A Rodriguez field. Who voted to give it the name of
The person who profitted from that? So, make sure you vote no this time around.
They will just raise more taxes!
Vote no against corruption. No bond, period.
A rat that is waiting in the corner to get his hands on that bond money.
How much did Dr. Jesus Chavez pay in BISD property taxes in the past 10 years? Answer: ZERO
How about Jessica Gonzalez?
Answer: ZERO
How about Denise Garza?
Answer: ZERO
Let’s get real here!! How many students that attend school in Brownsville are living or are from Matamoros?? The state of TN is trying to pass a law that all undocumented students attending school there will have to be paying a tuition if they still want to continue to attend a public school!! If that law is passed Tx will probably do the same. If that happens we may need to close more schools in the future here. I say vote No for the bond!!
