County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. announced his candidacy for re-election, according to a news release issued Thursday.

In it, Treviño’s states that his candidacy reaffirms his commitment “to the bold leadership that has helped usher in an era of growth and transformation across Cameron County, and cites the "tremendous progress, and he’s committed to ensure the county keeps moving forward.

“We’ve accomplished a lot, but there’s more to do,” Treviño said. “From advancing the South Padre Island second causeway to strengthening cross-border trade and attracting quality employers, we must stay focused on building a better future for every resident.”

The county judge said his record of public service and strategic planning has thrust the region into one of the most promising in Texas.

Treviño said property tax rates have decreased for two consecutive years under his leadership and that his highest priority in 2026 would be to again reduce the property tax rate.

The county judge also claimed flood-prone communities are safer than ever, citing drainage improvements in the northwest area of Cameron County.

Treviño, whose public service began as Brownsville city commissioner and mayor, emphasized the power of unity and collaboration in achieving long-term success.

“None of the remarkable success Cameron County has achieved happens overnight and without teamwork,” Treviño said. “It has been the honor of my life to lead the Cameron County Commissioners Court — and together we’ve built momentum, unity, and a shared vision for a strong future.”

Treviño has held the position since 2016. His name will be on the ballot for the March 2026 primaries.

In a campaign announcement, he said he is running for reelection because he believes Cameron County’s best days are still ahead.

“I will continue to work with the Texas Water Development Board and Texas General Land Office to identify funds that will enhance our drainage systems and watersheds throughout Cameron County,” he said.

The incumbent also said veterans have received stronger support under his tenures with the county employing twice as many Veteran Services officers.

“Economic development is soaring, with thousands of high-paying jobs created and billions invested in new industries and infrastructure,” the announcement read.

Treviño also said international projects continue to enhance the ports of entry and bridges. He said he would continue working with federal partners to improve trade and travel, including modernizing the Gateway International Bridge and a new pedestrian bridge there.

“None of the remarkable success Cameron County has (achieved) happens overnight and without teamwork,” he said. “It has been the honor of my life to lead the Cameron County Commissioners Court—and together we’ve built momentum, unity, and a shared vision for a strong future.”

Treviño’s public service began as a Brownsville city commissioner and the city’s mayor. He’s also served in leadership roles on the RGV Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Texas Border Coalition and the Conference of Urban Counties.

As he seeks reelection, Treviño pledged to build on the momentum in Cameron County while focusing on innovation, opportunity and bettering quality of life for all.

“I believe in our community. I believe in our potential,” he said. “Cameron County is now a known leader in spaceflight research and will soon be known as an energy export powerhouse too.

“We are no doubt experiencing unprecedented growth and we have a great future with unlimited growth potential. With your support, I’m ready to continue serving and leading Cameron County for another four years—progress isn’t a slogan—it’s a promise I intend to keep.”

Tens years is enough for this guy. Got a few deals from Elon Musk and not to mention the Tenasco fiasco. Got 9 million in lawyer fees while being the County "Rat" Judge. Plus his salary as County Judge. I believe it is enough and say good-by to "mini trump".
